Me and the wife have booked business class 1 way HKG-LHR on BA using the 2-4-1 (first time using the voucher) in Oct I’m a gold and my wife a silver . Is it true if flights overbooked in business class the first people bumped off are 2-4-1 and avios redepemtion bookings … just a little concerned despite being a goldy we might be bumped .

Currently flight is 777 with club suite

I think it’s more complicated than that, and status might trump the type of booking. It’s very rare, though but obviously you hear about it when it happens and not the other way around!

Otherwise it’s just one of those travel risks you can’t do a lot about except claim the relevant reimbursement afterwards.

I guess it’s very rare. Even if it happens, you have a strong case to call BA and be rebooked on a later Cathay flights and claim EU261. Or Qatar. Cathay has 5 or 6 direct HKG-LHR flights throughout the day.

Unlikely in the first place but if it did happen good luck getting BA to put you on a CX flight. They should but they seem very reluctant to do it (e.g the cancelled BA LHR-HKG service). You’d have more luck on a QR re-routing. Seems BA won’t pay whatever CX is asking I suppose, don’t know the politics of the two airlines despite both being founding members of oneworld

Don’t forgot that re-routing is not an entitlement for downgrading, so be prepared to beg very politely if you’re going down that route!

Also if BA did find you a CW seat on a different flight, no compensation or reimbursement would be payable.

Gold and silver should be OK. BA is a business – they bump off people based on current and future business potential.

I once remember flying out LHR-SVO. Overbooked flight so on standby with 10 others. My business companion with a Gold card and a few million miles was on the flight. I suggested they ask him to get off the plane, since he couldn’t do the meetings without me.

    Ticket appeared.
