I am part of a household account (not the head) and have a 2 for 1. I am in the UK, I want to take my brother-in-law on a trip, but he is a US citizen. If he doesn’t have a BA account can he be my companion usimg the voucher if he registers? I know he will need to get added to the same household account first. I also know the restriction on how many changes I can make to a household account. However, I believe the address needs to in the UK or has that rule changed? Is it okay to put his address as mine as he will first be coming to the UK, staying with us before flying with me? Will that cause an issue at check in when he will have a US passport? How difficult would it be for him to change his address later? Trying to think of a way that won’t be risky. Really want to help him as going through a difficult time. Thanks.
All entirely unnecessary you’ll be pleased to hear, household accounts are just for pooling earned avios.
As long as the companion voucher owner is flying, the other person can be anyone, just add them to your friends and family list. I took my brother last time I went away.
As the Companion Voucher holder, you can choose whoever you want to take as a Companion on your Companion Voucher booking. If you are part of a British Airways Executive Club Household Account, your companion will need to be part of your Household account or on your Friends and Family list. You can find more information on Household Accounts. However, should you wish to travel alone, you can instead use your Companion Voucher (if earned from 1 September 2021) to receive a 50% discount on the Avios fare of your solo booking.
Slightly related to this, my wife is close to earning a companion voucher but doesn’t have many avios in her account. I on the other hand have a few 100,000s Avios in mine. We currently aren’t in a household account together. If we wanted to use her companion voucher, how would the avios used for the booking be calculated from each of our accounts, assuming we do create a household account together?
