Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Using Barclaycard to send Friends & Family money via PayPal

So went to send money to friends and family via PayPal using my Barclaycard, before sending the money there was an orange marker next to the credit card in my wallet saying Barclays will charge a cash fee

This marker isn’t next to my Amex card

Does that mean if I use my Barclaycard to send money to friends (this will be my first and only time) is Barclays going to charge a cash advance fee

Ultimately its up to you but I wouldnt see how when itll be a payment for Paypal on your account as Paypal incurs fees for this free gesture.

There is no marker next to my amex card if I chose that to use as a payment method to send money however with the barclaycard there is ?

Is this a new thing or

Why don’t you try a tenner first and see.

I think these ‘markers’ are due to some enhanced level of metadata Barclaycard provide Paypal. It’s not always correct though, for example one of the things it adds is a ‘earn 1.5 avios per £’ if you add an Avios Plus card and view your cards while making a payment – all good until you downgrade your account, but still wait for the new card.

I tested this over the weekend. I received the warning on the PayPal app. The payment has cleared on my Barclaycard account. There were no additional charges.

The amex f&f paypal game has had many a victim so I would proceed with caution on Barclay side. MS’ing is possible but have stayed very away from f&f.

Mine is just for convenience of paying a colleague £10 or so ever couple of weeks when they sort out the office takeaway, but the whole thing certainly needs to be carried out with caution.

what do you mean by this. Victim as in paypal or Amex closures. Or worse?

Amex and PP closures. Have a search of the forum and online as there’s many a story. It has legitimate uses but if it’s being abused then you only got yourself to blame.

If it shows that it might treat it as cash, I would keep an eye on your credit file. Mine took a “hit” from a payment for something which got treated as cash.
