I’m planning a trip to South America next year for a family of five. We plan to redeem three 241 vouchers on Iberia flights from Madrid. Two of the 241 vouchers are in my name, so we’d redeem them for four of us. The remaining voucher is in my wife’s name, which we’d use as a 50% off.
I have a couple of questions as we make our plans. I’d be grateful for any insight.
1) Does anybody know how many reward seats Iberia makes available in each cabin in each flight? Searches on BA.com are inconclusive.
2) We will probably have to mix’n’match cabins for our booking. Ideally this would be five seats out in business, and five seats back in economy. But if there are fewer than five award seats per cabin, this won’t work. Does anybody know if it’s possible to mix cabins on a booking when two 241s are being redeemed at the same time? I.e., I can book 4 CW seats on BA using two 241s in my name. Can I book 2 Biz seats and 2 Eco seats with Iberia in the same way?
Unfortunately IB only release 2x business class seats per flight for redemptions and 241.
As for 241s, your strategy is correct for BA but because there’s only 2x business then I’m not sure show how a mix with economy will work. Try a dummy run with BOG.
AA.com is great for finding a availability. Search nonstop and J.
Terms of the voucher state that all passengers need to fly in the same cabin as the voucher holder, so no it won’t work that 2 passengers are in a different cabin. And BA are strict about it.
Iberia does sometimes release more than 2 tickets in J, but it will depend on the time of the year and where you want to fly. Off-peak to Bogota and routes with three flights a day are generally where they’d have 3 or 4 tickets available, but you have to be very quick.
@SandsofEss all the above is correct, but additionally, if you are willing to fly from a different departure point in Spain, and onwards via Madrid, you may find significant additional business availability, but still probably not five together.
@SandsofEss so I presume it’ll be 241 in your name for 2 people in biz. Your wife’s 241 will do 2x prem eco. Leaving a last one with cash possibly. Good luck.
Thank you all. I appreciate the advice.
The proposed trip was an open jaw, out to Santiago, back from Montevideo or Buenos Aires. A dummy booking for the longest horizon confirms the suspicion:
Santiago usually has 4 Eco, 2 Premium Eco and 2 Biz class seats
Montevideo 4 Eco and 2 Biz
Buenos Aires 4 Eco, 2 Premium Eco and 2 Biz.
@Zapato1060 – I think your proposed solution is my best plan.
@JDB, I had a look from Bilbao or Barcelona, via Madrid, but both appeared to have the same availability. Do you have any more advice on unlocking this potential additional availability?
