Using Qatar to book US domestics with Avios

I was going to book several USA domestic flights with American, using my avios through BA.com thus ensuring my emerald status comes through automatically – but I see that booking the same flights on Qatar is 15% cheaper.

Is there no downside to this? I simply transfer points into Qatar and make sure my BAC number is inserted somewhere??

I think the problem would be inserting the BAC number. Usually on redemptions, the FF# of the scheme you booked it with is quite sticky in the redemption.

QR chat agents can change your FF number – I did this a while back to be able to select seats. Worked for lounge access as well.
