6 minutes at $280 each is almost $100 per minute!
Even from Soufriere it’s an hour by road and OH is not a good traveller on normal roads let alone windy ones. Last couple of St Lucia trips this has not been a highlight.
Anyone experience of the transfer? Is it worth it?
We’d be going from Anse Chastanet’s helipad as the second half of the trip is at Jade Mountain (yay!)
Do it. You only live once!
That’s lunch money in London 🙂
I’d be inclined to agree with @can, as long as they have a good safety record and accept Amex!
*But let me be clear, you’d be expected to get several lunches out of that where I come from 😂

Well, dinner. We went to Rules the other weekend. Many cocktails were drunk. The bill was astonishing.

Ever the miles collector @NorthernLass
My Avios booking Jade Mountain through BA are already stellar!
Helicopters only operate in daylight, so if your flight arrives too late or is delayed then they won’t t operate. For this reason we took the helicopter on return to the airport.
We weren’t that impressed. Paid extra for the longer route to see the Pitons and still only spent 10 minutes in the air. There is only one helicopter company and they change peoples flight times to suit their bookings, so we ended up with 4 hours at the airport. 6 people + pilot squashed into one helicopter wasn’t much fun, also your luggage goes by road so leaves earlier than you on return or arrives later on outbound.
Thanks @Tracey. We did the heli transfer to/from Heron Island in Oz a couple of times and that was well worth it but it’s scheduled 30 minute flight low over the reef. Sounds like St Lucia is rather different.
Best helicopter flight though was Mount St Helens. Bit pricey but defo once in a lifetime thing.
We’ve taken helicopter flights into the Grand Canyon and over Victoria Falls, so this really was nothing in comparison.
Even with low expectations it was poor- too many in the helicopter and flight times adjusted to suit the carrier.
(There is only one carrier in St Lucia, so whatever the branding of your trip it will be the same helicopter)
Rising Sun taxi service are on Facebook and offer a very good taxi service, if you want an alternative.
I won’t be going back to St Lucia just on the back of the road journey to/from the airport. Most of the best resorts are in the North and the airport is an hour plus away in the south. That plus the late flight home put me off going back.
I have to say I had an amazing time but the $100 long taxi ride on not the best roads means I will be sticking with other Islands moving forwards.
As for the helicopter option the Ba flight leaves so late that you would need to be at the airport well in advance as the choppers only fly in daylight hours. Its an extra faff that doubles down on my desire to revisit UVF moving forwards.
There is another airport in the North of the island much nearer many resorts but I am not sure if its equipped for LH aircraft.
The helicopters go from the airport in the north of the island- so you still need a taxi to reach that airport.
The road journey wasn’t that bad, about an hour and a half.
BA flight arrives around 5pm, so tight to get the helicopter. It leaves around 7pm, so depending on your view, you have some part of the day at your resort before going to the airport and then a night flight home. I prefer night flights home but that’s personal.
You can fly through BGI to get to SLU and the trip from SLU to the northern resorts is very easy though probably best done with a multi-island trip as BGI-SLU may not fully align with the long-haul flight.
There are some rather nice resorts in the south though. Sugar Beach and Jade Mountain for us this time which we’re very excited about.
