Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Vietnam Airlines booking

  • 1,081 posts

Finally managed to book a couple of VN flights using Flying Club miles, PVG-SGN and SGN-REP, 23k and 11k respectively for two people with £90 in taxes each flight, £45 per person per sector. The usual £30 cancellation applies. What is awkward though is that even though Virgin gave me the VN PNR you can’t use it to access the booking on the Vietnam Airlines website. This had me somewhat concerned that even though I had a ticket I would arrive at the airport and get refused. It was made more confusing when the Vietnam agent said that neither the VS or the VN PNR could be used, I took this to mean there was no booking. When I asked about seat reservations they asked where I want to sit and booked the seats, so it appears they can access the booking but you can’t.

VN uses Sabre, so if you are just wanting to see it all exists, seat allocations and get change notifications etc, you should be able to put it into (free) Sabre based systems like TripCase. To get to PVG, the maglev is a fun experience, particularly if you aren’t staying too far away from Longyang Road and not overburdened with luggage.

@JDB Planning on the Maglev and then hopefully catch a taxi to the Regent. Thanks for the Sabre tip, I’ll give it a go. TripIt seems to have picked it up too.
