Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points
I keep an ancient smartphone on my desk in case some credit card wants to send an OTP before approving a payment. However, Virgin seem to want to use their app for everything including approvals of payments, which is annoying. I would much prefer an emailed OTP.
Does anyone know if its possible to tell Virgin (or their payments processor) to use email not the app? I couldnt find any option in the app to do this.
I despise all companies that insist on SMS OTP or App and don’t provide an email option.
What happens if you’re away from home, lose your phone or it just blows itself up as mine once did during a business meeting (luckily I had real train tickets not on-app ones otherwise it would have cost me £200+ to get home) .
You’re ultimately in a catch 22 of not being able to get into a system to reset/pay a bill/change your number etc. The whole industry that invented this mess needs a kick up the backside.
Kudos to Amex that have the balance correct, with sms AND email codes, and the option to ‘skip’ a merchant you use frequently.
