Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Virgin Atlantic Christmas sale?

According to moneysavingexpert.com there’s usually a Christmas sale for virgin and BA. This hasn’t happened (yet) this year, anyone got any insight into if this might still be on the cards? Need to book some flights to Miami for March and have been hanging on.

Go to the Article Index link (under “Content”) at the very bottom of the HfP webpage.

Open up articles for January 2022, January 2021 and January 2020 and search for “sale” on the page and you will get a good idea of start and end dates of sales for a variety of airlines including BA & VS.

Caveat: Both pre-Covid-era and Covid-era sales may not give a good indication of terms or generosity of Dec 2022 – Jan 2023 sales. The market seems to be a seller’s one rather than a buyer’s one at the moment.

What I would do if I were you is look at BA’s low fare finder from London to Miami, which gives BA fares out for 12 months. VS website isn’t as useful as BA’s in this respect, although you can put in dummy dates for, say, a 7 night trip in March dates on VS farefinder and select “Show flexible dates” and you will be shown a grid with departure and return dates up to 3 days before and after your input date. (I take screenshots every week or so when I’m looking to take a flight in the next 6 months or so.)

In any event, VS seems to be shadowing BA with uncannily close fares these days, e.g. BA shows lowest LHR-MIA 7 night Premium Economy flight in March 2023 is £957, whereas VS lowest LHR-MIA 7 night Premium Economy flight 3 days before or after 15 March 2023 departure is, erm, £957 …

Depending on your minimum travel class requirements, if you’re happy to pay the asking price, it may not be worth a lot to hold out for a sale these days.

From past experience sales start on the 25th Dec or slightly before that. I know because I made the mistake of booking a LON-Japan flight in Dec years ago as I saw its price increase … it simply went down to where it was before after the 25th Dec.

Cheers all, booked in the “sale” and got £50 off each seat (premium economy) which I’ll probably have to spend to get us two seats together! Ah well. Was hoping for more of a sale but I’ll take what I can get!
