Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Virgin Atlantic Credit Card extra 15k bonus with low credit limit

    Hi everyone,

we applied for the Premium Virgin Credit Card on the 9th of June in my wife’s name, I am on a supplement card. They only gave her a Credit Limit of £1100 which is pretty low and makes it a little more challenging to trigger the second 15k points bonus within 90 days, as we have to spend 3k. We have just now received the first 15k points bonus.

We looked at asking to increase the credit limit, but Virgin states online that we have to wait for 6 months.

Would it work if I spend like £1k on the Credit Card and pay the amount earlier, so I can go again more quickly? If I wait until Credit Card Statements are ready, i think we will miss this target.

    Any suggestions welcome.

Nope, I’m pretty sure Virgin ties the number of points that can be earnt in a single statement period to the limit on the account.

So your first £1,100 spending period was probably 9th June to 8th July. Hopefully you have repaid that as soon as it was available on the app and are now well into the £1,100 of the second period that’ll take you to 8th August(?). Then it’s just £800 to spend before 8th September.

@Andrew. is correct that you won’t earn the extra 1.5 points per pound on those additional pounds spent beyond your credit limit in a single monthly billing cycle. However, I am not so sure that they wouldn’t count toward your overall target of £3k spend in the first 90 days to trigger the extra 15k bonus points. I’d say go for it!

Well, there is the annual fee in first statement to consider as well.

Anyway, I agree with GG above that overspending will count for SUB.

I had the same issue with my wife’s application
Made some overpayments in month 1 and triggered the second 15000 points. It should work.

In my experience the fee is not considered eligible spend to hit the 3k target but YMMV.

Go to Chat on the App and ask for an increased limit – they will refer it.

I had ours increased very quickly that way – under 2 weeks from having the card.

unfortunately they didnt approve a credit limit increase for my wife, stating she has to wait 6 months.

we just paid off the card multiple times in the month, so we have now a spent of £3144 and still have like 2 weeks left.

Lets see whether they will provide the 15k points bonus.

In the statement of 10 July – 10th August, we spent £2023. But only 1650 Virgin Points got credited. That means, that this is based on the credit limit which we obviously maxed at £1100.

    Re low initial Credit Limit…………

Go on to Chat and explain that you are planning a couple of large purchases over the next 2 months and could they increase your Credit Limit.

They cannot do it there and then BUT they will refer it.

We did that in 1st week of having the card and they upped our Credit Limit to a decent amount (£3k to £10k if I remember).

It took 2 weeks for it to happen.

my wife has received the extra 15k points, no issues and Virgin didnt need chasing.
