Using the Virgin companion voucher with cash ticket, how does it work?
Is it limited to 75k points too (red member here)?
Or can you use it for UC if you’re bringing a companion for a cash booking, even if UC is 200k points?
How do upgrades work for cash bookings too?
Thanks
For the 241 its simple – you get 75,000 deducted from the cost of a reward flight that is identical to your cash flight (same cabin, same day).
Upgrades are still in dispute.
For cash ticket upgrades, it appears that Virgin rebases your ticket to the equivalent Saver cost and uses that as the basis.
Example:
Today’s points cost are Premium 100k and Upper 180k
A Saver in Premium would be 40k but is not available
You have a Premium cash ticket
The upgrade cost is NOT 80k, it is 140k (less the 75k).
Is there a list somewhere of what a saver cost should be for each flight that they base this on?
If you scroll to the “Maximum Saver reward seat prices” bit and expand the prices that should be what you’re after.
I think.
But it’s Virgin so who knows? The call centre agents certainly struggle.
Apologies if this has been asked before, but can’t find the answer – if I booked a one way fare for two people travelling would I get 75,000 credit using the voucher or do they half the credit (I. E. 37,500 max as its one way)?

Just checking Rob: so let’s say I pay cash fare for premium economy: £1000 but the rewards fare is not saver it is 100k points. Then the companion fare would be the fees eg £500 and 25k points right?

It’s worth 75k points regardless of how you use it – so you can use it all on a one-way redemption, but you don’t get any “change” if the cost is less than 75k, and there are no “half” vouchers any more to use on another booking.

Great, thanks.

I have a companion voucher and both my OH and I are silver so the companion voucher is worth 150k points. If say each of our flight at the same class is 100k points (so a total of 200k points for the two of us), can I use my 50k points leftover for my OH ticket? Based on what you said I think in this scenario we’d spend 50k points in total. Or would we need to spend 100k points in total (i.e. OH needs 100k points and I “wasted” the 50k points).
Thanks.
