I have a flight to Barbados in January, and just received an email alerting to a “schedule change”
The only things that appear to have changed are the flight numbers. VS223 becomes VS177, and on the inbound leg, VS224 becomes VS198.
What does this change mean in practice? Is it just a different type of plane??
It simply means for various reasons that the flight numbers has had to be changed.
Flight numbers don’t change just because the plane type changes.

Isn’t it just the routing of the flight? Some Barbados flights continue to other Caribbean destinations.
Yes, after a bit of research, it looks like some days the flight goes on to Trinidad and Tobago.
In theory this change should not affect us, but in practice, it cancelled our seat booking and although I logged on immediately to grab some seats, 80% were already allocated, and I could not get the previous seat booking.
That’s just the way it is, I’m afraid – seat reservations are never guaranteed so are best thought of as requests, I suppose.
Enjoy the trip!

If you don’t have a paid service like ExpertFlyer it’s worth putting your trip on CheckMyTrip or TripIt as they will notify you long before any airline so you can get seats promptly. Sometimes though when eg BA change 777 types it wipes out all the front seat rows so anyone with a good seat gets stuffed anyway.
