Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Virgin voucher expiry rule

  • 47 posts

    Hi,

I unfortunately had to cancel a reward flight due to family emergency. Expiry is next month. Any chance I can get them to use if to a flight in January ? I’ve read conflicting things about the book by/travel by rule on virgin. If not – should I actually ask for a lounge pass ? Or do those expire when the voucher do ?

    Thanks

In the context of the credit card or status vouchers, there is no such thing as a ‘lounge pass’ – instead, you’re trading the voucher in for access to the Clubhouse. This means, therefore, that there is only one expiry date: that of the voucher itself. Theoretically, the voucher expiry date does not change, but it is always worth calling to see if it can be put toward a flight post-expiry – agents can be quite flexible at times, especially if you’re a Flying Club member.

I had this recently with a voucher expiring in June which i won’t now be able to use. The agent i spoke to via the FC gold line said they are now enforcing the expiry date rigourously as demanded by virgin money so the flexibility they once had which allowed me to use an expired voucher earlier this year now seems to have gone.

Sorry for hijacking this post. Has anyone booked inbound flight more than 1 year later than outbound and outside 24 months of voucher issued? Found this under T&C:

    6. You can spend your reward for up to 24 months from the date it’s issued. That means you have to have booked your flights and taken the outbound flight within those 24 months. You can take the return journey afterwards.

My case is I have used outbound on 2nd Jan and would like to book the inbound next Apr. My voucher will expire around Oct this year. Thanks!

The ticketing systems wouldn’t allow that. Maximum one year between outbound and inbound. Others can give the more precise rules.
Also, I am not sure you can add the inbound after flying the outbound. Believe that’s also not possible.

I used it as upgrade voucher for one-way outbound flight. I could still see the partially used voucher in my account, I presume it is usable.

Ok, I believe you can use the remaining voucher if you book the inbound leg as a new one way ticket. You cannot change the ticket already completed.

I think, too, that this will be how they process it. The TFS may well be higher, unless they’re willing to recalculate based on an old ticket (but that would be extraordinarily generous!).
