Sad not to get to do our booked Singapore-Perth for this year, but very glad we managed to fit in Singapore-Sydney last year! Thankfully the decision has been made far enough in advance for us.
Yes, I saw this news last night but it looks like the UK to Barcelona cruise is still sailing – fingers crossed!

@Peeps The same with Barcelona to Athens sailing (hopefully).
Not sure it was purely a decision made on ‘ safety ‘ either….
I do feel for the hundreds / thousands of people who’d already booked/ paid for voyages ( and costs associated such as flights, hotels etc).

Of course it’s a decision based on safety.
They cannot sail through the suez canel atm. They could wait longer to cancel which would frustrate more customers as the cruises sell out. Better to send the ship another direction than to sail around Africa empty through very rough seas. That would result in several weeks with no passengers, or several weeks with passengers sick from said rough seas. That’s a lot of lost income.
They are also far from the only cruise line avoiding sending their ships east. MSC for example are doing the Canary Islands over Winter instead of the Middle East.

Yes there’s a safety component but they ‘could ‘ have returned in the autumn if they’d wanted to . Commercially this hasn’t been a huge success overall. Lots of cruises have had moderate numbers of passengers and to be honest some of the itineraries have been hopeless ( I’d hardly call a 3 night trip to Burnie a cruise …) Numbers on board have been swelled by ‘ influencers ‘ , free cruises being given away etc etc .
Yes, I’ve got my fingers crossed for the Barcelona to Athens too lol. Got such a bargain on it I’d be gutted if it was cancelled…especially as I’ve booked flights, hotels etc
