Hi All
Just booked my outbound flights to SJO next year using my Amex Plus companion voucher 🙂 . I was confused by the avios/cash payment balance that came up but have now seen about the recent changes, which worked in my favour!
Now my thoughts turn to booking the return in 2 weeks. I had a quick look and the site is showing no Business class reward seats on the return leg for all of November, but there is availability on all outward flights still. Is there some strange pattern here where loads of people are booking business class SJO-LGW but not in the other direction, or is it possible that BA don’t release as many seats on the return leg?
Because of the recent change in scope of the voucher, the site was also offering me 2-legged flights via Madrid, which are pretty good (and cheaper). So that would be a fallback when I call in a couple of weeks, however has anyone tried the ‘merging’ of a partner airline ticket to an existing BA leg ticket? Will it work the same way as if I was booking a BA return leg?
Thanks
PS Just realised the title is misleading – when I started the post my theory was that I couldn’t see the ‘bonus’ reward seats that I believe BA makes available for companion vouchers on the return flight because I’d ‘used’ my companion voucher. On further experimentation I’m not so sure that’s the case but would welcome any insight.
I’ve got a similar issue. I used my companion voucher which indeed made seats available for me. Now I’m looking to upgrade to first, if it becomes available but I no longer have the voucher so I can’t search for special availability.
Annoying!

Don’t worry – there is no special availability for First.
