    Another BA fail!

    My club Europe BFS- LHR- Vienna flight has had the Belfast to London leg cancelled. Basically I have 1 of 3 options;

    1. Fly the night before to London and stay there overnight. Will BA cover hotel cost?

    2. Fly AerLingus economy. Will I be entitled to luggage / lounge? Will I be due avios back?

    3. Fly into London city and get my way to LHR. Will BA pay for a taxi?

    I spoke with the rudest agent ever this morning and she couldn’t answer any of these questions and shouted at me and repeatedly talked over me.
    I am done with BA!

    1. yes they have to pay hotel at reasonable local cost. Heathrow hotels pricing generally quite high currently even for dross. I’d book the Sofitel after I’ve found 2 or 3 more local pricing examples to keep in case they query the prevailing local rate – could be well over the £200 that’s generally not questioned by them. They are also obliged to pay transport to and from hotel and meals occurring during your extra travel time at reasonable local rate.

    I’d go for this, if I could travel earlier. Just for the sake of good order mention to them when rebooking the categories of expense above that you will look to them to reimburse ( no need for specifics just that they can expect your claim). Obvs you’ll be claiming compensation for cancellation as well based on the length of the end to end journey Ireland to Austria, or for delay, after the flght.

    2. No, it’s a downgrade and you can only get a very low amount back on a shorthaul jpurney. Nope. no luggage no lounge unless you get them to provide specially, unlikely this will really work.

    3. BA is on the hook for transport costs lcy to lhr. it’s a pig of a journey and they will try to pay only public transport. Obvs if you have loads of luggage,invalid elderly grandmother, poor public transport timetable, lots of you travelling etc.it may be reasonable for you to claim taxi. I’d not get into this argument or hassle and would go for 1.

    You csn choose to reschedule your enture trip to another time or take a refund if you prefer

    1 They will, although maybe not willingly. You might need to take them to CEDR, but they should pay up without that. Keep the cost of the room <£200 if possible to make it easier to get BA to pay.

    2 I’d say you’re unlikely to get lounge access. If youve got luggage included on your booked ticket then you’ll get that on the replacement, although there is a chance you’ll need to pay and reclaim from BA

    3 They should, but are even less keen on paying taxis than hotels. You’d have more luck getting them to pay for public transport. They are very unlikely to get more than £50 for the taxi without taking them to CEDR.

    Edit: just seen Lady London replied before me, I agree with everything she says except about the luggage.
