Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club What constitutes a BA Holiday?

Sense checking that a flight booking with a car added at the time of booking for part of the 6 nights duration, is counted as a BA holiday? No need to use the restrictive BA holiday page?

    Thinking double TP’s.

    TIA

I’d say the litmus test is does it offer you the chance to pay only a deposit. If yes and if the 2x point conditions are met then it’s a holiday.

If you book the flight then add the car and pay the whole lot in one go, I believe you’re out of luck. And remember you’ll need that car for at least 5 nights anyway.

The folk on the phone are mostly incredibly helpful if you want to do something complex. Spent almost an hour sorting an open jaw, mixed cabin fly drive out the other week. And there’s no extra fee to pay for phone bookings, either.

I like to use this page: https://www.britishairways.com/badp/complexItineraries/search.do

If you can build it there it is a BA holiday 🙂

I’ve never found the BA Hols booking page to be restrictive.

Using the custom trip option brings out extra options.

I booked ARN-LHR-NYC recently and the BA Hols option offered me ARN-HEL-LHR as well as plain ARN-LHR. The former opening up extra TP from the HEL-LHR route.

Flight only doesn’t give those options.

And of course flight only gives you the flexibility to tailor make your trip.

Personally I’d say yes, providing you meet the minimum 5 nights car included and start from the UK, and BA flight numbers, and added the car to the flights before paying. I’ve often had trouble with the BA Hols start page too, my litmus test would be at the bottom of the confirmation email, does it give the BAHols address under Contact Us, or the “this is an automated email….” with no mention of BA Hols… although obviously that requires booking it first to find out…
I’ve done this method before and received the double tier points, but you do seem to lose the option of just paying the deposit for some reason, assuming you’re far enough out from departure to qualify for this anyway.

    Good advice, thanks all.

BA holidays agent very helpful, northern call centre of course 😉

Just be careful the route you take. If you select flight only, then add a car or hotel before you pay, then it doesn’t come up as a holiday (no option to just pay a deposit).

From the main homepage, select Flight + Car and it’ll treat it as a holiday.

Absolutely – assuminy you get routed to the right place. Sadly one call I had went like this…

Me: “And i’d like to fly back from Mexico City”
BA: “Whereabouts in Mexico – Cancun?”
Me: “No, Mexico City. Into Heathrow”
BA: “Oh, I’m not sure we fly that route and it’s probably into Gatwick”

Ultimately the individual couldn’t get the process to work because of the mixed cabins which apparently need to be booked out and back in the lower cabin, then an upgrade applied to the relevant sector.

By the time I got round to calling back to speak to someone who knew how to drive this, the fare had gone up a bit, but the W->J uplift of £120 per person from MEX to LHR certainly took the sting away. Even moreso when you consider that’s less than the YQ uplift on the same sector had I tried to UUA…

A bit niche, but just to add that a Hotline flight + hotel does NOT qualify as a BA Holiday!

Has a similar conversation whereby booking the holiday as economy then upgrading outbound pretty much totalled a full business fare (outbound and inbound) had I just booked online. At this point my head hurt, so told them I’d think about it …
