Hi, our plan is to fly in to London on a Tuesday on a 50% Avios ticket and do a Covid test at the Sofitel for a flight the next day to the USA.
What happens to the Avios ticket if one of us fails the Covid test?
And if only one fails the Covid test, is it too late for a FTV etc for the other?
How much would we lose if we cancelled after flying the first leg?
Asking because Covid is now 1 in 11 in Scotland, so chances are getting high!
You can voucher up until check in closes, so no trouble there. Unfortunately you’d lose your 50% discount on a rebooking. If you only want to FTV one person then you’d need to call in to have the booking split first
Avios tickets are priced per leg, if you get a voucher part way through the flight then you’ll get back the Avios in a voucher for the rest of the flights + whatever taxes are due back (which are less coming back from the US than going)
In theory the voucher will get refunded back to your Avios accounts automatically after a while but I’ve got one “messy” ticket that hasn’t been, so likely you’d need to call in to use it on something else
Sure it goes without saying but I’d do NHS testing up until the point you leave the house – you’d think it’d be pretty unlikely to then show positive in the short time before you do your USA test!
