Forums Payment cards American Express What to do with leftover Membership Rewards points?

I’m looking to close my Gold card in the next few weeks. One year anniversary is approaching. I’ll transfer the bulk to Avios but I’ll inevitably end up with some (up to 500 points left over). Any suggestions on how to spend them efficiently? I tried adding my Nectar card but apparently that’s already linked to a previous Amex card (must be 5+ years ago)!

    Thanks!

Get a free Amex card before you close the gold and the points remain in your Amex account.

If you collect marriott/hilton/radison points, minimum is 400/200/3. Or redeem it against a low purchase (tube/coffee?)

Same happened to me thought I didn’t realise it was linked to an old card at the time. Got Amex on Chat and they found the problem and sorted it for me.

You can use the last few points on Amazon, if you have something you need to buy from there.

Hilton and Radisson best options if Nectar is out.

As long as you have the minimum MR amount left (200 iirc) you can cleanly cash out for a statement credit. Not the most valuable way to use them but very easy and, for under 500 points, easy is good.

Agree with the statement credit option – buy something cheap, and use the remaining points to settle the balance.
