I don’t use Marriott as much as Hilton or IHG but I have a sizeable stash of points to use before “dynamic pricing” (probably) wipes out their value in March!
Anyway – plenty of properties have now released award availability for late December, but none of the ones I want! Do different hotels release their award inventory at different times or would some not release any at all at Xmas/New Year due to the likelihood of being able to sell those rooms for cash on those dates?
Good question. Given that hotels are restricted on the number of blackout days they are allowed (although they are allowed some) and they are otherwise required to make reward nights available, I would assumed the contractual minimum would be there as soon as booking opened? It’s not something I’ve even seen discussed, I must admit.
I’ll give it another few days and report back. Marriott seems to release availability in blocks of a week at a time, unlike Hilton and IHG which update their systems every day.
There are plenty of Marriott/Bonvoy options but I was hoping for somewhere with a 1 bedroom suite rather than having to book 2 separate rooms.

Did you find out any more on this subject ? I am in a similar position waiting for Accra Ghana to open up availability with points in the bag ready to spend
Some hotels seem permanently blocked out over Xmas/New Year, both for points and cash bookings so I guess they might just be booked up really early? However, I have seen some more award nights released and managed to get 5 nights in Key West and 5 nights in Key Largo in 1-bedroom suites which is perfect for 3 of us. Cost me 600k points in total and cash prices are $600 – $1000 pn over that period so I feel like I’ve got a decent return!

That is excellent value, really good for you! For me I seem to be waiting for the whole of Q4 to open up in Ghana so clearly not just a Christmas high season situation. Hopefully it will not be long because if they leave it too long people will book elsewhere. Thanks
People will not book elsewhere as almost every other hotel at the Kotoka airport is a dump. There are a few good hotels in the city, but not around the airport.

Would be interested in knowing which hotels are better in your opinion ?
I have stayed at the Holiday Inn, Golden Tulip and Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
For Ghana I thought they were ok and served the purpose of visiting family at Christmas.
Please share your knowledge on any better ones
