Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios When does the cabin upgrade voucher trigger on the Avios Plus card?

Hopefully a simple question – context being we are about £9.9k through a £10k spend, but ideally I’d like to align this with the cabin upgrade voucher that’s generated after 12 months of holding the Avios Rewards account (taken out at the same time)

I have read through some indirectly related threads here which would imply that the voucher is triggered once the £10k spend is hit (presumably starting the 24 month validity period at that point).

I rang Barclaycard yesterday, who couldn’t actually tell me with any great degree of confidence, but did reference T&Cs that said 12 monthly payments of Avios Rewards would have to be met as well.

It seems as though they are referencing Clause 2 of the following, which does indeed state this:
    https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/executive-club/collecting-avios/personalbanking/cabin-upgrade-terms

Your Cabin Upgrade Voucher will be issued to the British Airways Executive Club account linked to your nominated account for Barclays Avios Rewards within five working days of your Barclays Avios Rewards anniversary which is defined as 12 monthly payments for Barclays Avios Rewards.

Does the “12 monthly payments for Avios Rewards” mean the bank account fees though? In my case, for this year, this would be aligned with the Barclaycard membership year, but for the next year, I will always have met that “12 month” criteria if I’m not mistaken?

I hope that makes sense? Many thanks for any advice

The Barclaycard Avios Plus voucher is generated as soon as you hit the £10k spend. The voucher from the Premier account with Avios Rewards is only triggered every 12 months.

Worth noting that once you have your cabin upgrade voucher, you can downgrade to the free card. This gives a new card number and a new collection year.

I got a CUV in June after spending £10k, and another one in November for spending £20k on the free card.

Thank you both – this is incredibly helpful.

Final question that Barclaycard also could not answer – do you know if refunds count against the spend again? For context, we’ve recently had to return a £1k item. The refund has gone through, but the spend “meter” hasn’t reflected this deduction. I’m not sure if it’s a timing thing, or whether this is as expected. I’m ultimately not fussed either way, but just want to be confident as to whether I’m £100 off the trigger, or £1,100 off!

When I had a refund for a cancelled BA Holiday, the original Avios earned were reversed, so I ended up with a large -ve balance until I had spent the money again.

Some things are best not discussed on a public forum. That’s all I’m saying. And some questions are best not asked of Barclaycard either!!

I have only the basic Barclaycard Avios card – I believe that the voucher is also triggered after I hit the £20K spend (yes in hindsight i should have gone for the Plus card). Once I have the voucher in my BA account can I cancel the card?
