AMEX has a memory that would shame most pachyderms
I cancelled my AMEX plat cashback card 15 years ago yet my new card proudly announces member since 04.
Anecdotally people who cancelled cards early in the year didnt lose their SUB, got their fee refunded pro rata but some have reported problems applying again although IIRC most of these were before the 24 month requirement came in

oh and amongst the benefits of plat card is the generous points for referring which is based on your card not on which one the referred chooses So might be worth referring your other half before cancelling eg for a BAPP

Hi, I am not sure what you mean by clawback? I tried to cancel the card this morning, (after using the Cashback in an Ivy restaurant thank you for the advice yum) before reading about clawback, so I am glad I failed, I failed due the the fella on the phone giving me 50k points, seriously! I asked him what I had to do for the points or how long I had to keep card but he just said that it wouldn’t tie me into a length of time, they just wanted me to stay, as I spent 50k this week upgrading our outbound flights with VA to UC and was feeling a bit bruised, as we are flying again next January and I’m saving like crazy to get more points, this is lovely.
