Discuss today's stories:
With the VS 2for1 vouchers you used to be able to book the outbound and then add the inbound to it, but the VS site now says
Vouchers will be redeemed in full at the time of booking.
Has anyone booked the outbound first and then added an inbound at a later date recently?
The rule under the new system is that there are no “half” vouchers any more, and if you don’t use the full value in one transaction, you forfeit the remaining points. That said, I’ve seen one post from someone who managed to use a voucher in 2 halves quite recently, but I’d say they got lucky with the agent.
Also – I think adding the inbound later is causing issues with re-pricing so it seems generally better value to book 2 singles in this scenario.
Yes – best to book 2 singles. I use mine on the Cape Town route, if you are flexible on dates then best use it on the return part as there seems to be cheaper(Points) options as the outward is sky high!
Clearly this will depend on your route and preference, but there is kind of a solution to extra full value from the voucher.
Book your outbound and then book a generic inbound with a number of points that best extracts the remaining value from your voucher. E.g. 35,000 points outbound but no idea which inbound, find something for 40,000 points to get the full 75,000 points from your voucher.
When you then figure out your return preference, you should be able to pay the £70 change fee (not sure if per person?) to switch the flight. This way, you’ve extracted more points from the voucher with the downside being paying the change fee. But even 2*£70 change fee in exchange for maybe 40,000 extra points from the voucher is a good deal in my opinion.
I don’t see any reason why this wouldn’t work. Particularly if you book a far ahead return flight so that you have plenty of time to change it.
