Any recommendations for a place where I can do a little bit work for a few hours in the Covent Garden / West End? Perhaps a hotel lobby?

Depends how much quiet you need, but I’ve popped into the Salisbury Pub a few times to work for a bit!

Covent Garden? The coffee shop and seating on the ground floor lobby of the Royal Opera House is huge and extremely quiet. Nobody would care if you nursed a coffee there for hours; or even made phone calls in an empty corner somewhere.

The top of the page below is a picture of just part of it (there are never this many people outside show times!). Can’t remember the plug situation.

The top floor terrace is allegedly even quieter but I generally can’t be bothered to walk up 😀

How about the cafe or the Linbury Bar in the Royal Opera House?

Foyles and Royal Opera House are decent suggestions. Otherwise… one of the hotel lobbies? E.g. Covent Garden Hotel has a nice space downstairs. The Strand Palace Hotel too has lots of quiet spots, but the latter is slightly busier due to its size.

Basement area of the National Gallery (a little away from Covent Garden) is a popular office-away-from-the-office for me. Bit noisy with groups sometimes but excellent wi-fi, and completely free.
