Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Will BA release available Club Seats for Avios?

  • 69 posts

    Hi All

Flight on Thursday (in 6 days).
    We are in Premium.
    Used BA 2-4-1

There are no Club seats for AVIOS redemption.

There are Club seats available for cash.

Will BA ever release the unsold Club seats for AVIOS redemption?

    Thanks

Just because there are cash fares available does not mean they will also release avios ones.

It’s a question of just checking to see if they do.

Only if they feel they won’t sell them for cash. Let’s say there are 6 seats available, selling one for £6k cash is better than selling 4x reward seats as they don’t have the incidental costs of so many passengers.

Also, they don’t want the person who would pay £6k to book a reward flight instead so that they lose £5k in cash. They don’t want reward flights to cannibalise very lucrative cash ones.

Also, where are you going? You’re far more likely to get extra seats released, say, to NYC, than to MLE.
Have you set up an alert (if a subscriber to something like SeatSpy)? I actually set up a couple the other day when I was looking to do a last minute trip change for next week and have had quite a few pings.

If any are released often it may be very close to the flight – say last 48hrs. Though I know that’s not of use to many.

Our posters with inside knowledge may be able to narrow down how far ahead is likely

One thing BA does well is to ensure that there is no noticeable pattern to this sort of thing – because if there was, people would start to work around it, costing BA money!
