At Wimbledon today I visited both AmEx lounges, and was rather unimpressed. Queue to gain access, then feel free to buy a drink at the cash bar.
By contrast, anyone with a Barclays account could “spin” for a possible prize. I won a hat (that retails at £35), and the lady next to me won a pair of socks. Anyone with a Premier account was given a Wimbledon tote, containing the day’s programme (£12 otherwise) and some ground Lavazza coffee to take home.
Oh – and an e-voucher for a serving of strawberries and cream.
AmEx need to improve their game.
I’m not really very surprised as Barclays and HSBC are trying to up their game with higher income customers whereas Amex seems to pander principally to coupon clipping and/or flibbertigibbet type customers and its customer service and social offerings are tailored accordingly.
Last year we walked past the queue for the Amex Lounge and having visited once before, couldn’t understand why anyone would want to bother! If Barclays have upped their game with account holders, do they offer anything to shareholders?
flibbertigibbet
I know that’s a real word, but c’mon!
Oxford dictionary definition:
“a frivolous, flighty, or excessively talkative person”
Synonyms:
“scatterbrain · foolish woman · birdbrain · gossip · featherhead · rattlebrain · featherbrain · chatterbox”
I think a lot of Amex holders would care to differ!
