I got a text from Barclaycard saying “Hi, you’ve reached your account balance limit” after I had to put a large work expense on the card because a conference venue didn’t take Amex. I still have a few thousand left inside the credit limit and chat is offline, and I’d rather avoid their call centre.
Anyone any idea what this is about since I am still under the credit limit?
Do you have any pending transactions or any holds? Or a recent payment waiting to clear?

Should be nothing pending; certainly not for a few thousand.
Sounds like the venue has taken an additional hold for something?
Surely your App details all the pending transactions?

Nope, nada in the app. Will try and call Barclays today and post an update.
I had this a few months ago. It turned out Barclays had slashed my credit limit (by 90%). They sent a letter a few days later. When I complained to them to find out why, they told me it was to do with info on specific credit reports. I checked these by ordering them and there was nothing.
Suffice to say I barely use the card now, although they have stopped the monthly fee. The other thing analogous with you is I had also put substantial work expenses through.
You would have set a threshold, which is close to your credit limit but lower than the credit limit. When the card spend reaches that limit, you get this notification. Just like a warning that you’re near to your credit limit.

Just called them — which was less painless than last time I tried — and that’s what it is. Neither I nor the agent could figure out how to change that spend warning, but I’m not that fussed since I never usually get anywhere near close to it.
