£1,000 British Airways Club World flights to Hong Kong are back

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

They’re back!  It is not clear why British Airways is doing this – perhaps to match fares from the Middle East airlines.  I’m not sure what other explanation there can be for this astonishing fare to Hong Kong which is currently available from all British Airways departure points in Germany.

This is NOT a fare mistake.  It is a published fare with detailed fare rules.

For the next week, British Airways is selling return Club World tickets to Hong Kong from Germany for roughly £695 plus taxes and surcharges.

British Airways 350

There are NO advance purchase requirements – you can fly tomorrow if you want.  The only rule is that you stay away for a Saturday night.

You do NOT need to fly directly to Hong Kong.  You can also fly from Germany to London to Singapore, Shanghai, Bangkok, Chengdu, Beijing or Kuala Lumpur, and then connect to Hong Kong using another oneworld airline.

Free stopovers are allowed, although APD will be added if you stay more than 24 hours in the UK.

You can start from any German airport served by BA.

If you try to book this ticket on ba.com it will price at around €1,403 depending on routing.

Last time this offer ran, you could get it even cheaper by booking it via Expedia.  This is NOT the case this time – the cheapest fare is on ba.com.

Here is the interesting bit ….

Tickets must be booked by July 17th and you must start your trip before August 16th.  However, you only need to fly from Germany to London by August 16th – if you don’t mind paying the Air Passenger Duty (another £150 or so) then you can have a stopover in the UK of up to 11 months if you want!

I found an example with a huge Summer-long stopover in London at €1,600.

Have a play around at ba.com and see what you can find.  Note that availability over Christmas is very slim as the required fare class is rarely available.

OT: How long does it take for the BA bonus points to be credited for the return flights offer which ends 17th July ?

  • bob mcbob says:

what happens if you ‘miss’ the last leg?

    • AHCL20 says:

… I was thinking of the same, as I live in the UK and would like to *miss* the first and last legs of the trip

      • Alan says:

You ABSOLUTELY 100% must NOT miss the first leg of your trip or the entire ticket will be cancelled!!!

Missing the last leg is OK if done very occasionally, do it too often and BA may come looking for some extra cash! As an aside, don’t even miss the last flight to Caribbean destinations if flying with AA or you won’t receive any frequent flier points for the trip!

      • Polly says:

Also your last leg should depart from a different London airport, ie LCY, LGW…. But as Alan says you MUST take that first leg.

Ralph. We did what you plan. We are doing an ex EU in oct from CPH, on QR J to HKT, our first time, so will probably try an ex EU BA one next year. Bear in mind QR J is the same config as BA F. Always a very comfortable flight on flat beds also, if it wasn’t for the Doha stopover. We cancelled our BA F 241 to take this one on QR, which will give us BA silver after a couple of short EU flights.
This BA sale is a great tier point run, actually. Would have been better for us than the QR one points wise. However we can’t win them all.

  • Henrik says:

So I could do a TXL-LHR-KUL-HKD and back and get close to that price (i.e. connect to HKD rather than from)? Tried BA (entering each leg), but came up at €4.5k. Explain to a n00b how to search for these tix.

    Thanks!

    • Rob says:

You need a particular fare class to be available in Club World for it to work. If you keep tweaking the date of the long haul leg it should, at some point, work as long as you are inside the date ranges and staying a Sat night in HK.

    • Polly says:

Get propeller to look at it for you worth the £30 fee

      • Wayne Zimmer says:

Hi Polly, Im not familiar with propeller? Whats the deal with getting help with planning.

        • Rob says:

Click ‘Bookings’ tab in the HFP menu bar at top. They are a travel agent who specialise in odd stuff like this – HFP is partnering with them to let readers book stuff like this more easily.

        • Polly says:

Propeller can help, if you can’t work it out through Matrix… But v helpful comments below. Hope you get your flights sorted.

  • Lee says:

Does anyone know how to get the stopover in the UK to show on the ba website?

    Thanks!

    • Gavin says:

Use the multi city option on BA.com

Unfortunately it means you won’t get a price u till end of the process.

It’s easier to use ita matrix (google it
If you aren’t familiar) to get the itinerary and once you’ve prices there, mimic same flights on BA.com

  • MadMiler says:

@Lee Use the multi-city/stopover. After selecting Germany as your country of departure you can enter the departing city and flight date (ie TXL-LHR) then on the second line LHR-HKG at a future date. Finally, HKG-TXL on the third line with your returning date. Hope this helps!!

    • Lee says:

Thanks so much, tried the multi city, but get a price of EUR 5000 plus for 2 people?

This was for fly next week (Germany to LHR), stop over, then Hong Kong in later September for 10 nights. Is there a trick I am missing?

      Thanks!

      • Rob says:

You need Club World segments with, probably, R class availability. Keep tweaking the CW leg to different flights. If you click the flight number on BA.com booking screen it should show selling class.

      • Gavin says:

I used ita matrix as i said earlier. However, i found that i had to route thru KUL to get the pricing i needed (BA LHR>KUL then Cathay KUL>HKG) – a direct flight from LHR>HKG made the price jump. Doing virtually the same itinerary as you so germany(somewhere) to Lon (Stopover of 9 months) then LHR>KUL>HKG>Germany. Im just playing about with which German cities to start from so i can use a avios reward flight to do the positioning flight.

So go here http://matrix.itasoftware.com/, click on multicity, then click the ‘advanced routing codes’ link, key in your dates and destinations in each box and enter c:ba+ into the routing codes box for each sector which means it’ll look for BA flights only.
Im no expert and it may take several attempts to find the correct dates/flights so good luck.

      • MadMiler says:

I tried finding the “cheaper” fare LHR-HKG return first as well as the “cheaper” fare TXL-LHR, then combined those into the multi-city. Was able to find that I could start next week (London stopover) and then not take the flight to HKG until I need to in April.

  • SimonB says:

Anyone confirm that tier point accrual will be 280 (140 each way) starting in TXL/FRA etc.?
tier point calculator comes up with 0 if you enter TXL as departure and HKG as arrival point but split into segments, it reveals this. Raffles (or anyone else), any idea what fare class this pertains to?

What a fabulous deal. Thanks HFP

    • Rob says:

Fare class is immaterial for TP as long as it is Club World. TP calculator only works segment by segment. 320 sound right (40 + 140 + 140 + 40).

  • MarkL says:

Can you book these flights through BA holiday club?

    • Jonathan says:

Not via the website – the “customise your multi city holiday” link only allows UK departures.

You may have more luck calling the BA team directly.
