Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Excellent Avios / Virgin and Tesco deal – act now for very cheap miles

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Tesco Direct has launched an exceptional new promotion on HP printer inks.

This is so generous that I cannot imagine it lasting long and may even be an error.

You receive 1,000 Tesco Clubcard points for every HP printer ink you buy.  Those points convert into 2,400 Avios or 2,500 Virgin Atlantic miles.

The cheapest ink in stock is £12.

Even if you throw the inks in the bin, you are only paying 0.5p per Avios point and a little less for the Virgin miles.  However, these inks sell perfectly well on eBay so you should be able to recoup much of your £12.

You can combine this offer with ‘money off’ discount codes, eg £10 off £75, which show on the individual ink pages online. Your miles will get even cheaper.

You even get FREE ‘click and collect’ delivery to your nearest Tesco store.

Remember that Tesco caps Clubcard accounts at 30,000 points per quarter.  They have also been known to remove points for ‘excessive’ buying, although as these inks are consumables they would be on sticky ground here.

I recommend ordering sooner rather than later.

The list of inks available is here on the Tesco site.

  • Andrew H says:

I have ordered one at £19. Hopefully it will go through…

  • John says:

Just placed an order for 4 cartridges, but forgot about the base points you get – this takes me 9 points over the quarterly 30,000. Is this likely to cause any more problems other than it just being reduced to the 30,000? I.e. are the points I had accumulated so far this month (Lego/NowTV) at risk? Wondering if I should cancel and reorder just 3 cartridges.

  • S says:

I used to be amazed that people managed to get 30,000 points in one quarter…

  • Vijay Odedra says:

Got a email saying my order is cancelled! Trying again but the more expensive cartridges…still only £19 X 4

  • Pangolin says:

I just put through an order with the 364XL cartridges at £19. I bought 8 for £152 then applied the £20 code to bring it down to £132. I can flog these on ebay for around £120 so that will net me nearly 20,000 avios for about £12. Not bad for an afternoon’s work!

    • Adam says:

Have you taken into consideration all the fees involved in selling those inks. I make it more £55 you have paid for those avios which is still very good but a long way off £12.

      • Genghis says:

Even if I end up throwing away the inks, I got a decent deal. I’m not really into the resell on eBay game but I’ll give it a few months and may dabble a little.

      • Pangolin says:

I may sell them in batches or pass some on to my brother-in-law but even for £55 it works out at 0.28p and I won’t be complaining about that.

      • barnaby100 says:

Wait for a £1 final sale listing fee offer_ I get them about every 3 weeks and often £3 in between.

  • Andrew H says:

Judging by Vijay’s comment above, ordering four is when your order is likely to get cancelled… I’ll be surprised if the orders in those last two comments make it through. But good luck for it!

    • Vijay Odedra says:

First order was for 5 so not sure if the orders are being cancelled due to this offer being a mistake or because the stock has run out hmmmmm

    • Genghis says:

      I’ve got 5 x 5 ready for despatch.

  • Not a freeloader says:

Great, more crap going in a landfill…

    • Alex H says:

Time to get a life and read a different website me thinks

    • barry Cutters says:

people are not going to throw these in the bin.
they will be sold on eBay to people who are needing them.

Robs comment was ‘If ‘ and was nearly to demonstrate how good a deal this is .

    • Zoe says:

If anyone really can’t be bothered with eBay but wants to offload them getting a few pounds back I could be interested…

      • Fadi says:

Right here. I have HP 364XL on the way.

        • Zoe says:

zoe (dot) bryant (at) aol.co.uk . If this isn’t okay Rob then please delete.

          • Andrew H says:

I have one available. It’s only one but you can buy that as well if you want more than Fadi has?

  • ian duncan says:

does this extra points apply/work for in store off the shelf buys?

    • Roger C says:

They’re showing *100* Clubcard points in my local store.

      • Simon says:

Me too but was told by someone collecting them in the store that they will automatically get converted but not sure as 100 points was only showing on the receipt per item

    • Simon says:

Keen to hear whether store bought items are included

      • a says:

I have just been to a tesco store and they were 100 points/item. I raised this at customer services, showing a screengrab of the online offer and asked if they would honour this, but they said it was 100 points in store.
