Book 241 flight now or wait until November when status changes to Silver?

Apologies if this is a basic question, but I’m just about to book my first companion voucher flight to NY and I’m wondering if it’s better to wait until later in the year when I’ll have achieved BA silver status due to the 50% Avios boost that it gives. Obviously don’t want to miss out on securing the flights (it’s to coincide with our wedding anniversary next April, so dates are set in stone).
By the beginning of November we’ll have silver status with BA, so could I book the flights now and then cancel after silver status has been achieved and then rebook and collect the 50% Avios boost?
Or is there a better way to do it that I’m not thinking of?
