From the UK, Abu Dhabi at 40,000 miles in J looks a steal (albeit it’s hot!) as is Hong Kong, Tokyo and Beijing at 70,000. There are also a lot of Economy deals, especially short-haul, but LH’s steep taxes still mean these are still not great deals. For example, Berlin (from Manchester) is cut from 30,000 miles and £130 taxes to 10,000 miles and £130 taxes – compared to BA’s standard Reward Flight Saver rate of 9,000 miles and £27. Berlin from London at 5,000 miles is slightly more interesting, but BA is still a better deal.
What did stand out, oddly was Manchester to Sylt for 10,000 miles! Sylt is the European equivalent of The Hamptons or Martha’s Vineyard, and stood in for the latter during the filming of Polanski’s ‘The Ghost’ a couple of years ago.
It is also worth playing around with other European starting points to see what other long-haul routes come up, given that you can reach most of them cheaply with a BA Reward Flight Saver. The Lufthansa home page is here.
