Free First Class upgrade on First Capital Connect to Gatwick, plus other Gatwick offers

Gatwick Airport has launched the Gatwick Voucher Passport, a new scheme which claims to offer over £400 of discounts to travellers.  Whilst I’d take that with a pinch of salt, there are some decent deals.

You need to register.  Annoyingly, I can’t find a webpage which explains the scheme to people who are not already registered.

Gatwick North Terminal

Once registered, you’ll be shown a list of deals relevant to your date of travel.  The better ones I got included:

£10 off £100 at Dixons Travel

Free drink from Jamie’s Bakery

£5 off £75 spend at World Duty Free

£5 off £12 at London News Company

Free glass prosecco at No 1 Gatwick lounge

Coffee and pastry for £2.95 at Apostrophe

10% off Official Gatwick Parking

50% off a 2nd guest at the Aspire Lounge

25% off National Express travel to Gatwick

Free First Class upgrade with First Capital Connect

The First Capital Connect voucher is only valid to or from Gatwick, so don’t try it for your regular commute!

Just registered, put in a date in November when I will be in Gatwick and the first offer I selected expires Oct 31st. Second voucher selected ends Sept 30th. Third and final offer selected also ends in Oct.

  • Brian says:

Thanks for this – Flying from LGW today!
Registered and selected a few offers. Rather stupidly, the email you get containing your vouchers has them running together in the body of the email resulting in vouchers being chopped in half when printed. Even a single voucher is split over a page break owing to the images and text above it in the email.

  • Raphael says:

The First Class upgrade is confusing. It says in the small print that onlyvalid on certain routes. Does this mean if I have to change train I can’t use it?

    • Brian says:

You can only use it on the part of your journey which is on the First Capital Connect service. This runs from Brighton to Bedford via London Bridge, stopping at various points along the route (including Gatwick of course!). Perfectly fine to change onto that service and sit in first class but you cannot sit in first class on any connecting service, nor on any other service or operator along the same route (so not on a Southern or Gatwick Express train for example)

  • Andy says:

The free glass of prosecco is only if you are stupid enough to turn up at the door and pay £27.50 to enter. Pre-booked and priority pass not eligible.

Glad I used a throwaway email address.

  • Dave says:

First Class on FCC is just like any normal commuter first, not worth it unless the train is busy and unlikely to get a seat in standard. Even then there’s the risk it’ll be already full of others on standard tickets risking it because it’s so busy.

  • Andy says:

Would rather travel in Standard on Southern than FCC Thameslink trains which are very tatty and scruffy (class 319s). Saying that I still have one of my comp FCC passes to us up. As I FCC season ticket holder you get 2 free off peak passes to use on any FCC service. This year they upgraded them to First Class.
