New IHG PointBreaks list due TODAY – watch for an additional HfP post later

Later this afternoon, IHG Rewards Club (the Holiday Inn, HI Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc group) will be releasing a new list of 150 hotels which will be available for ‘PointBreaks’.

This means that all of these hotels will be available for just 5,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night for the next two months – saving up to 45,000 points on InterContinental redemptions.

PointBreaks availability is very limited so book ASAP if you are interested.  As soon as the full list is available, I will post it on Head for Points so do check back during the afternoon.

Bookings are refundable as with a standard reward reservation. 

You will be able to book via the IHG PointBreaks page here or via the standard booking page here.   There are already some hotels listed on these pages but these are the OLD deals.   The new hotels will be loaded later.

IHG has changed the rules about booking PointBreaks properties in the last few days.  You can only book TWO reservations (not two nights, so you can book as long a stay as you want) at each hotel.

You need to think carefully about your strategy because of this.

With IHG, you cannot change a reward booking without it repricing at the current rate.  Let’s say that you book Thursday to Sunday somewhere at 5,000 points per night.  If you later find that you cannot make it until Friday, you CANNOT ring up and drop the Thursday.  The whole stay would be repriced and it is likely that PointBreaks would no longer be available, so you would have to pay full price.

You also can’t simply turn up on Friday (unless you can negotiate a deal with the hotel directly) because your entire stay would be cancelled after you were a no-show on Thursday.

The way around this used to be to book each night as a separate stay and then cancel the ones you didn’t need.  This is no longer possible because of the ‘two reservations’ rule.  You need to think before you book …..

Seven preview hotels released

We know of six hotels that will be on the list today:

• Crowne Plaza Hotel Bangkok- Lumpini Park, Thailand
• Crowne Plaza Johannesburg-The Rosebank, South Africa
• Hotel Indigo San Jose Forum, Costa Rica
• Holiday Inn Hotel Laval- Montreal, Canada
• Holiday Inn Hotel Frankfurt – Airport, Germany
• Staybridge Suites Guadalajara Expo, Mexico

Whilst these are not all obviously appearling, if there is a property on the list that coincides with somewhere you want to go then you’ve got a bargain!  Even if it is the Holiday Inn in Doncaster.

Hotels will be bookable for stays until 31st July.

Don’t forget to check Head for Points later today for the list.  Really good properties (if there are any) tend to sell out within a few hours.
