Best ever Heathrow Rewards sign-up deal – 2,500 Avios, Virgin, Lufthansa, Etihad or Emirates miles

Heathrow Rewards – the loyalty scheme for Heathrow’s duty free shops – has launched a new sign-up promotional bonus in association with Lufthansa.

This is, by a substantial margin, the most generous sign-up deal that I have ever seen for Heathrow Rewards.  You will receive 2,500 bonus points (= 2,500 miles) when you spend £50 on two separate days before October 31st.

Heathrow Rewards gives you 1 point for every £1 spent in Heathrow (1 per £10 on foreign exchange) or on Heathrow Express tickets (online bookings only).  Heathrow Express bookings do count towards this promotion as long as you spend more than £50 in one purchase – I recently triggered a bonus myself with a HEx transaction.

Heathrow Rewards

You can redeem your 2,500 points for Avios (in either avios.com or British Airways Executive Club), Virgin Flying Club miles, Etihad Guest, Miles & More miles or Emirates Skywards miles.

Alternatively, you could take £25 of Heathrow shopping vouchers or Heathrow Express vouchers, or £50 of vouchers towards the official Heathrow car parks.

There is one slightly odd thing about this offer.  It claims to be run in association with the Lufthansa Miles & More frequent flyer scheme.  However, if you visit the Miles & More website, it promotes a totally different deal – a smaller 1,000 point bonus from a smaller £25 initial spend.

As the 2,500 bonus points deal is on the official Heathrow Airport website, however, I don’t think you need to worry too much about getting your bonus.

Whilst Lufthansa is sponsoring this promotion, you are not obliged to send your bonus points to Miles & More. You can redeem for any of their airline partners or for something else.

Here is the small print:

Points will be awarded when you spend £50 or more in a single transaction on two separate calendar days before 31 October 2015 and the Heathrow Rewards card is presented. You may well already have a Heathrow Rewards account. If so, you have three options:

open an account for someone else who shares a BA or Avios household account with you, then transfer the Avios to that account

Heathrow Rewards now lets you transfer points between different people – you could get a card in a random name, spend the 2 x £50 and then ring Heathrow Rewards to transfer the points to yourself

if you have only previously converted to one airline programme, you could open another account in your name (different email, different postal address) and then send the points over to Virgin, Etihad or Miles & More if you usually send them to Avios (or vice versa). Do not use the same Avios number on two accounts.

If your card does not arrive before your next Heathrow trip, don’t worry. Save your receipts and scan or post them to Heathrow Rewards and they will add them manually.

    Is there are chance these bonus points won’t transfer to airlines, which Heathrow Rewards have done a couple of times recently.

      The website clearly says the 2,500 points are worth 2,500 miles and it is shown as a Lufthansa co-promotion, so I am 99 per cent sure you are OK.

    Slightly o/t but when do Heathrow rewards points earned for prepaid parking get credited to your account? We booked months ago for parking last weekend but no points have posted yet!

      I have the same experience but I think they wait until after you actually use the parking. Presumably in case you cancel after booking

      Parking points will only post after you have completed your car parking stay. My experience is that it usually takes about two weeks, but I have waited over a month in the past. However, all car parking points have always posted sooner or later.

        Perfect thanks! By the way, if anyone is using the T5 pod parking be warned that at the far end (B end, around the corner to the left) there are some trees which drip nasty sap. We left the car for the weekend in the shade, and came back to a very stick car and a windscreen you couldnt see through!

    To clarify – can I make two separate transactions for a £50 Heathrow Rewards voucher?

    It’s a lovely idea but contingent on being a frequent flyer and wanting to spend £50 + at LHR each time. Personally try and move away from the retail jungle as soon as I possibly can.

      No, it is 2 x £50 spends, on different days, to get 2500 points for a £25 Heathrow voucher or 2,500 miles.

          Points will be awarded when you spend £50 or more IN A SINGLE TRANSACTION on two separate calendar days before 31 October 2015 and the Heathrow Rewards card is presented.

      Yes you can, you have 21 days to return the unopened, undamaged product in its original packaging. It’s something I have done once or twice.

    I’ve not looked for a while, but do the WHSmith at Heathrow sell gift cards? You could buy a £50 gift card for later spend, at a restaurant for example.

      Dixon sells iTunes & PC world/ Curry gift cards. I remembered seeing the ITunes cards in some WH smith, too.

    Are you sure the bonus points will be awarded if you simply scan your receipts and send them in? I know that works up to three times a year but the terms of the offer specifically say “Points will be awarded when you spend £50 or more in a single transaction on two separate calendar days before 31 October 2015 and the Heathrow Rewards card is presented. “

      The other option is to print off your own temporary LHR Rewards card if the plastic one hasbn’t arrived in time.

      After logging in to your account, click on “order a replacement card” on the left, and when that page loads up, directly above it on the left will now be a link to “My loyalty card”.

      Click on that link & you get a virtual card you can then print off or save to your phone to scan in the shops.
