Changes to Head for Points posting over the Summer

Long-time readers will know that I usually drop the post count from three articles to two during August.

This year, as we are away next week, I am bringing it forward by a week and the reduced article rate will start from tomorrow.  Technically, it started today if you don’t count this as a proper article!

I promise you that you won’t miss anything!  The travel industry tends to go to sleep in August and there are few new deals to report.  You can be sure that anything which does come up will be covered though!

I will take the opportunity to run more ‘how to’ pieces than usual.  There may still be three articles on any particular day if the news flow justifies it.  If you’re lucky, I may even get revised versions of the “Avios Redemption University” series up ….

For clarity, the site continues to run as normal.   Dropping a daily article simply keeps pace with the reduced newsflow.  My laptop will be following me wherever I go.  One highlight will be a report from Niagara Falls, where I am helping my Mum fulfill a lifetimes ambition to visit.

If your office is quiet, I recommend taking a look at our ‘Favourites’ page where you will find links to the most interesting articles from the last 12 months as well as links to all of my flight reviews, our ‘Avios Redemption University’ articles and our 25 credit card reviews.

  1. Enjoy Niagara Falls.

  2. Welcome to Canada! Niagara Falls and the Maid of the Mist boat trip is great. Walk along the boardwalk as well. But if you and Mum are staying in Niagara, then be ready for a disappointment as the hotels are poor in terms of quality.

    Have fun!

  3. If your Mum tries to persuade you to get into a wine barrel, then decline.

  4. Niagara Falls is good and worth seeing, but if you’re hiring a car I’d highly recommend visiting Niagara on the Lake – much less trippery and a very pleasant place to walk around. Also lots of nice vineyards to pop in and see nearby 🙂

Can’t wait for your report on Niagara as we were looking into going there sometime soon as well. We met somebody who went recently and said its just like Blackpool with all the souvenir shops and it sort of put us off going.

    • Yes, that was what I was meaning when saying trippery – I think the Falls area great to see, from what I understand the Canadian side is better than the US, but I’d only spend a day at the Falls themselves, the surrounding areas are much nicer 🙂

      • Think Square says:

I prefer the US side to the Canadian. You get the falls without the Blackpool.

Agreed that Niagara on the Lake is worth visiting though.

    • We are on the way to a wedding, Niagara is not the main point of the trip luckily!

    • Lady London says:

      + 1
Iguazu and Victoria Falls are still on my list though.

      • Can definitely recommend Iguazu – worth seeing from both Brazilian and Argentinian sides!

  6. Don’t miss the wine estates – every bit as spectacular as the Napa Valley…try Peller…

  7. fiona says:

Hope you have a great trip!

    Hi Rob,
Thanks for all of your hard work in putting these articles together.
    Enjoy your holiday.

  9. Rob – have a great holiday. Thanks for a really useful site, sometimes it feels like a private members club.

  10. Dave H says:

    Have a great time

  11. The maid of the mist is worth it (assuming the weather is decent) however, if you get the opportunity (and the expense isn’t too extortionate) a helicopter tour is an extremely memorable treat. It was 1991 for me & I still cherish it!

  12. Brian says:

Hey hope you have a great time in Niagara. I am also going there for the first time in August so looking forward to it.

Using my Barclays free nigth certificates at the Embassy Suites as they just opened availability for a “both falls view” suite to be available under the standard reward.

How lovely of you and how wonderful for your Mum… I do hope she is suitably impressed. I am sure she will be!
