News in brief:

Amex supplementary cards registration for Shop Small

I wrote about the American Express ‘Shop Small’ promotion this week which kicks off on 5th December.  This is a good offer which gives you £5 cashback on a £10 spend at participating independent businesses.

It is limited to one £5 rebate per card per shop.  If you have supplementary cards, you can double up!

When I wrote my original article, it was not possible to register supplementary cards on any Amex-issued Amex cards you hold.  This has now changed as the offer has appeared on the cardmemberoffers.co.uk site. If you visit that site and click on the ‘Shopping’ tab you will be able to register supplementary cards without any trouble. Thanks to Mark.

Flybe 350

Flybe Farecracker sale launched

Flybe has launched a short sale for low-season travel between 1st December and 17th January.   You have until Monday to book.

Flights start from £24.99 each way.  In theory you would earn Avios on Flybe flights based on the amount you spend after taxes, but I doubt you will receive much, if anything, for these fares.

Full details can be found on the Flybe website here.

Interestingly the only Flybe flight I took post avios join earned miles based on the full cost, not the cost less taxes.

  • Flyoff says:

Raffles, you can register supplementary cards in your Amex online account so you receive offers and register for them. This removes the need, in most cases, to use cardmemberoffers website. Shopsmall has been available via this route from when it was made available on primary cards.

    • Waribai says:

Yes, I discovered that yesterday. The ‘My Offers’ space for supp cards which had previously been blank is now full of of offers including Shop Small!

    • Grimz says:

So can you add as much supplementary cards as you want and get the statement credit on them all?

    • Brian says:

How do you do that? I tried to register my father’s supp card and got an error message. So I sent Amex a private message and they said that my father would have to set up his own account.

      • harry says:

Amex Amex supp cards are possible either with the link above or by using the link in the online a/c that is specific to that card.

Non Amex Amex (bank-issued cards) supps can use the Amex Connect site.

But if the cards share the same long number (eg BMI Diamond Club Amex) the supp can’t register.

        • Simon says:

But presumably if it is the same number and the main card is registered any shop small purchases will register (so long as it is the first spend in that shop) ?

  • AndyGWP says:

Brill – thanks for the supp card link raffles – can never seem to properly register a supp on the Amex MR website so this was useful

Note to others –> the “Register your UK card” link on the cardmemberoffers website doesn’t work, but the “register your card for this offer” link (on the right of the page) does

Raffles –> side note, I tried to post a link on yesterdays “bits” to betterflying (IIRC?) and hints from an AA employee re: proposed changes to AA / AAdvantage but it didn’t seem to post. Problem at my end, or did you not think it was suitable? (no probs either way 😀 )

    • Rob says:

If there were more than 2 links it goes into ‘pending’ and I release it later.

It may have gone directly to spam if the system thought there was something odd about it. I will take a look in there but it may have been deleted.

      Absolutely nothing deliberate though!

      • AndyGWP says:

Was just the one link – it didn’t hit pending at all (as I think you can see when this happens) – I must have been spamified 😀 ah well

  • rich says:

How do I add my ex Stockholm booking to my BA account. The 6letter/number code doesn’t work on add a booking

    • rich says:

Sorry its a Qatar . Ex Stockholm booking. £845 to bkk for a week either side of Easter. Bargain!! Thanks for the heads up about these fares Rob.

      • JQ says:

You can’t as it has no BA flights. You need to add your BAEC number on the Qatar website.

    • Rob says:

Can’t show on BA.com without a BA segment.

Add BAEC number via Qatar Manage my Booking.

  • Rob says:

Thanks, will take a look for tomorrow

  • Leo says:

Wouldn’t recommend the £79 headphones – had them before and they stopped working pretty sharpish as per most of the reviews on Amazon also indicate. God I sound like a teenager.
