Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Join ‘The Club of Small Luxury Hotels’ at ‘Loved’ level and get triple Avios

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Small Luxury Hotels of the World is a consortium of 520 luxury hotels in 80 countries. These are primarily independent properties, many of which are well known in their respective markets.

SLH has its own free loyalty programme called The Club. It is a no-brainer joining this if you are planning to stay at a SLH property, since every member gets a room upgrade on every stay.

However, if you join via the link for American Express cardholders you will be automatically enrolled at ‘Loved’ level.

Whilst it only takes one stay to achieve ‘Loved’ status anyway, the key benefits are worth having – free continental breakfast for two and late check-out. Joining via this link means you won’t have to wait until your 2nd stay to enjoy these valuable benefits.

SLH is also an official avios.com hotel partner and has just launched a new Avios promotion.

As long as you book and stay by 30th September, you will receive 1,500 Avios points for every stay. This is triple the standard rate of 500 Avios.

Full details can be found here.  Do read the small print about which rate categories qualify.

ON but hotels/avios: Any news on possibility of new Kaligo promotions?

  • HayMow says:

Can existing basic (“Special”) SLH members successfully upgrade in this way do you know? Prefer to avoid having to create a new account (got Loved status last time when you flagged up the Liberty instant upgrade promotion). Thx

I booked a Junior Suite at Les Jardine de la Villa, in Paris, through SLH. What a terrible experience! When we arrived at 7:00 pm, the room wasn’t ready. We had to wait an hour at reception. We were not offered refreshments. We requested a late check out but that was denied. Sent an email to SLH during our visit complaining about this but SLH said it was at the discretion of the hotel. Also, the TV didn’t work in the room, we reported that immediately and the next morning but it remained broken throughout our stay. I’ve never bothered with SLH again.

Dreadful – if booked through Amex Plat I’d raise a complaint through them.

I’ve also got “Loved” status through an earlier deal. I’m currently in dispute with SLH. I booked a hotel in Madrid for September. I won’t name it as I’ve yet to be convinced it was their fault. I paid an advance rate the week before Brexit for obvious reasons. Confirmation said payment would be taken that day. Hotel still hasn’t taken payment but say they will now – cheers. Booked through SLH portal. SLH are just ignoring me and hotel are saying it’s the fault of SLH. At least hotel responded to my emails. Unimpressed. Hotel gets good reviews but this might be my one and only attempt at being “loved”.

I have a slightly similar problem.
Back in June I booked the second half of flights for next June and paid the charges using my BAPP card. Despite a phone call this £200+ has not appeared on the account. I have until 2nd Sept to spend 10,000 and get another 2-4-1 and avoid paying £195. I could easily spend the £200 and cancel, but what would happen when BA finally put the charges through?

      • Rob says:

Downgrade to the free card if it worries you, charges should copy across.

    • Leo says:

As if by magic SLH got back me today and offered me €25 off the original price. I haven’t done the maths but I’m going to a accept because I can’t be bothered to cause more fuss and at least they HAVE tried!

Just got back from 6 nights at The Principal in Madrid, which I booked through SLH. Fantastic hotel!

  • Andrew H says:

I booked a night at the Leopold Hotel in Sheffield recently, very nice. Escorted to my room, shown the features, offered a free drink from the bar with two chocolate cakes, and free continental breakfast. Plus 500 avios into the bargain.

    • Rob says:

I have wondered what that was like. Sheffield and ‘luxury boutique hotel’ are not phrases that went together during my years there. Need a night somewhere for November though.

      • Andrew H says:

They gave me a room on the 5th floor. It was larger than what I’m used to – a double and two singles in one room, a long desk, a sofa, table and chairs, gown and slippers, and a large bathroom. The only window was a skylight in a sloping wall, though.

  • Andrew H says:

    (That was Loved status obviously)

  • Talay says:

    Just signed up – thanks

Does it matter whether I credit BAEC / Iberia Plus or Avios (Frequent Travel Programme I think they call it) ?

    • Rob says:

Not sure – you’d need to see if ba.com was promoting the triple Avios offer. The link I gave was to avios.com.
