Nutmeg Avios

SAVE THE DATE: HFP Christmas party, Tuesday 6th December!

I’m delighted to announce that, after four years of pestering from readers about organising a get-together, we will be holding the first Head for Points reader Christmas party on Tuesday 6th December.

We will be taking over the Dry Martini bar at the Melia White House hotel.  The White House hotel is an attractive 1930’s building situated just a few minutes walk from Warren Street, Regents Park and Great Portland Street tube stations.

This will be a great opportunity for you to have a few pre-Christmas drinks and, more importantly, to meet fellow readers and to share your travel hints and tips.

Melia Hotels International is generously sponsoring the party and underwriting a large percentage of the drinks bill!

There will also be a prize draw on the night.  One guest will win a very attractive prize from Melia – more details coming soon – and there will be a number of runner up prizes too.  (Please get in touch if your company would like to donate a prize.)

Because we need to ensure that people who ask for tickets turn up, we are charging £15 for tickets.  However, your £15 ticket covers unlimited house wine and beer between 6pm and 8pm.  Soft drinks will also be available.  We are not making a penny from this and indeed Melia Hotels International is footing the bulk of the cost.  After 8pm, the bar will remain open for cash payments for anyone who wants to stay longer.

Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Friday morning – we will publish full details in another article.  We honestly have no idea how popular the event will be but I hope that as many of you as possible can come along to meet Anika and myself and to talk miles, points, credit cards and travel with other readers.  You might even win a prize!

(Want to earn more hotel points?  Click here to see our complete list of promotions from the major hotel chains or use the ‘Hotel Promos’ link in the menu bar at the top of the page.)

Bits: Yotel / Virgin partnership, my trip next Easter, 50% off Hilton points
Are Amex Platinum Cashback cards a good alternative to miles and points cards?

  1. It’s possible. I can spare the leave for a trip to the Smoke. If I can find a cheap room, I’ll see if my new boss will let me book time off.

    • Fenny, hope you can make it. Try Airbnb in Fulham or Brompton for a cheap room, found one for a friend yesterday for about £40 all in…

  2. Tom Murray says:

Hmmm what a pity. We’d have been there BAPP and Tesco Club in hand buying Rob and Anika the drinks they deserve – but – we’ll hopefully be checking in at PHL for the ride home. Brilliant idea Rob. Great place.

  3. Great Idea – would definitely have come, but also out of the UK that date. Do it again next year if its a runaway success. Enjoy.

  4. Great idea. I’m in London that day & will try and make it.

  5. Definitely thinking of coming along. This is my favourite site and the first thing I read on my morning commute every morning.

Anyone fancy a Amex Small Shop pub crawl after. A few I have identified in the nearby vicinity on the Small Shops map:

  6. Sounds great! Looking forward to it!

  7. Lady London says:

Normally I’m a bit like Niles’s wife Maris from Fraser and am never seen.

However the thought of meeting other fans of this strange hobby, especially the civilised and interesting readers of HeadforPoints, is just too tempting. It helps that I am already booked to be near Gt Portland St tube that evening. I’ll be the one in the corner with a Coke.

  8. I’ll have a rolled up copy of the sttms.

  9. Hi i will be arriving from las vegas to miami airport on overnight flight arriving early am into Gate G12 , I would like to use the amex centurion lounge in gates D12 on arrival but I will have luggage is it possible to pick up luggage and get to the lounge ?

Cant see any email for amex centurion lounge to ask them for info ?

I dont have an onward flight that day.

  10. O/T but thought I would spread the word! My star alliance silver status came through after 8 weeks! Literally the next day (21st of November) my wife and I were flying from Gutuatmela – Lima with Avianca (5 hour flight with a change over). We were upgraded at the gate to business class due to the status! I think it might be time to change teams. The plane was a A330 with 2-2-2 formation up front! Cheers Golden Circle & Amex

  11. Michelle Booth says:

Great idea, will be sorry to miss it as will be celebrating birthdays in Poland.

  12. Chris Cannon says:

Damn! I’ll be in Vegas that week

  13. Wally1976 says:

Would’ve loved to come to this but no way I can make it down to London on that day I’m afraid. Could do with a midlands meet-up!

  14. Bad News:

Tube drivers are to stage 24-hour strikes on 6 and 7 December, coinciding with a walkout by Southern Rail guards.

The Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) said drivers on the Piccadilly and Hammersmith City lines backed action over a “wholesale breakdown” in industrial relations.

Southern Rail guards are due to walkout on the same days in a row over changes to the role of conductors.

    • Looks like it will only be the Piccadilly plus the Hammersmith & City lines. IF it goes ahead. Southern are nearly always on strike so nothing new there!

Looking forward to it (but where’s the follow up article you mentioned Rob…?)

      • You got to love London’s public transport…
However Metropolitan line is running and it’s kind of in walking distance from Euston, Warren Street, Regent’s Park and even King’s Cross….
Follow up article is scheduled for tomorrow.

  15. Sounds like a cool idea… I’m in. get back from rotterdam the day before so just in time.

    • Also organised a fairly large get to together at this bar back in Jan… excellent choice Rob. Everyone is in for a treat

  16. Bobajob67 says:

Hopefully can make it. I plan to be in London that day so just need to juggle some things around. Oh, and get approval from my wife for a late pass. Never mind the avios, brownie points are fast diminishing……

  17. My wife has just encouraged me to go along (slightly worrying!) So I’m in!
