Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

SAVE THE DATE: HfP Christmas party, Tuesday 6th December

I’m delighted to announce that, after four years of pestering from readers about organising a get-together, we will be holding the first Head for Points reader Christmas party on Tuesday 6th December.

We will be taking over the Dry Martini bar at the Melia White House hotel.  The White House hotel is an attractive 1930’s building situated just a few minutes walk from Warren Street, Regents Park and Great Portland Street tube stations.

This will be a great opportunity for you to have a few pre-Christmas drinks and, more importantly, to meet fellow readers and to share your travel hints and tips.

Melia Hotels International is generously sponsoring the party and underwriting a large percentage of the drinks bill.

There will also be a prize draw on the night.  One guest will win a very attractive prize from Melia – more details coming soon – and there will be a number of runner up prizes too.  (Please get in touch if your company would like to donate a prize.)

Because we need to ensure that people who ask for tickets turn up, we are charging £15 for tickets.  However, your £15 ticket covers unlimited house wine and beer between 6pm and 8pm.  Soft drinks will also be available.  We are not making a penny from this and indeed Melia Hotels International is footing the bulk of the cost.  After 8pm, the bar will remain open for cash payments for anyone who wants to stay longer.

Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Friday morning – we will publish full details in another article.  We honestly have no idea how popular the event will be but I hope that as many of you as possible can come along to meet Anika and myself and to talk miles, points, credit cards and travel with other readers.  You might even win a prize.

Count me in. Not too far from the office and be good to chat to people who share the hobby…

  • adey says:

Great idea! Sorry I can’t make it, I’ll still be in Las Vegas (just arrived)

  • Amo says:

I’ll happily come along. I don’t comment, or indeed know any of the ‘regulars’ but would be great to meet more people with this crazy hobby of ours.

    • Rob says:

None of the regular commentators on here know each other anyway – and I’ve never met 90% of them – nothing cliquey about this party!

      • polly says:

Rob..looking forward to seeing other hobbyists. Interested…why no name badges? Might be useful. ..great idea. Thanks for organising this too.

        • Rob says:

Perhaps we will. Hadn’t thought about it really. I normally only use badges to find out someone’s company not name – which doesn’t apply here.

      • Alex W says:

A few months ago I went to school reunion dinner and another regular commentator was there!

  • Mike says:

Rob, great idea, unfortunately I am away in Zurich on business and getting my new tier point collection off of the zero balance!

  • Nicklas Nilsson says:

Sounds great! Recently moved to the UK and London, so will be great to get some tips and talk about a fun hobby 🙂

  • rams1981 says:

I’ll be in Muscat so miss this.

Be good to hear reports next day of people looking totally different to what people expected etc 🙂

  • Nick says:

I’ll go if Harry goes 🙂

    • the real harry says:

      not me – Cornwall! 🙂

& 3 pelican kids with a career wife

have fun you lot, wish I could be there etc

      • the real harry says:

actually she’s been up in London Mon-Weds so could report back on your venue! 🙂

        sounds OK though

        I’m dangerously behind the times & I guess in London £15 = 2 beers + venue?

        • Rob says:

If Melia were not part funding it then, yes, it would be 2 drinks each only! Luckily we have a big budget now.

        • Polly says:

Harry, ask Mrs H to come along if she’s free. Then she can earn some sympathy points for us lot! You will be much missed!

          • Waribai says:

Yes, I might be able to come along. It would be good to meet Anika and Rob. I definitely wanted to meet you Harry though!

          • the real harry says:

I will be the guy wearing the badge that says ‘punch me in the face, I like it that way’

let’s face it – coming up from Cornwall it’s a bit of a toughie.

I do hope to get a few reports 🙂

  • keith says:

Great idea and would definitely have come but flying to Scotland that afternoon. I’ll raise a wee dram for you and thank you for answering all of my emails with various questions and getting us to turn left when getting on a plane.
