SNOW: Many British Airways cancellations and delays from 3pm, free rebooking offered

Due to the heavy snow and freezing temperatures expected at Heathrow this afternoon, there are major delays and cancellations of flights to be expected.

National Air Traffic Services has informed Heathrow Airport of expected delays due to the need to de-ice aircraft before they can take off and to continually remove snow and ice from the runways and taxiways.

If you check the status for BA flights from heathrow on this BA site, you can see that a number of flights have either departed early, are delayed or have been cancelled.

If you are booked on a flight between 3pm and midnight today, you can rebook for free.  This offer is available even if your flight is currently still showing as operating.  BA wants to keep as many people away from Heathrow as possible this afternoon.

Free rebooking is available onto any flight departing on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Its 2.10pm and 15 miles from LHR (to west) there is nothing but rain. Much to warm yet for snow.

  • Elaine says:

I’m at Heathrow waiting for the Vancouver flight later this afternoon. We left home early to make sure we could get here. It’s definitely relentless drizzle/rain at the moment. But (latest weather briefing) it looks pretty miserable and if it gets colder it could be snow…

PS. Thanks Rob for the email reply on ResDiary. Guess they’ll get their act together eventually!

  • Ro says:

    Its snowing here now

    • Elaine says:

Yep. Vancouver flight bwing de-iced as I type. We had a no-show who had bags which had to be removed so we justvfidn’t make it before the snow. Grrr….

  • Leo says:

    Where’s this here snow then?

  • Nick says:

Sorry but O:T question for Genghis. Just a few days a go you explained on replying to a comment on here on how to get about 34k of Avios with the SPG Amex. Could you run it past me please as I can’t find it. Thanks. I do need to change my name on here soon as there’s a few Nicks on here nowadays. I’ve been reading Rob’s site since day 1.

    • the real harry1 says:

      not difficult to search it

[G] Be referred for SPG (11k SPG), spend £1k (1k SPG), refer OH for card (5k SPG), OH spends £1k (1k SPG) and gets bonus (11k). One person has 17k SPGs, the other has 12k SPGs. If live at same household, transfer across to OH or vice versa for 29k SPGs. If transfer over 20k SPGs to BA get a 5k bonus, so the 29k SPGs become 34k avios.

  • The Original Nick says:

Can my OH refer me for the SPG Amex card from her Amex Platinum card? Or does it have to be from someone who has an SPG card?

  • Dio says:

What snow???? Had an awful BA flight from dublin. 2.5 hours delay. No stock to service the new m&s joke. No point to go BA now for this trip.
