Thank you to everyone who came to the Head for Points Christmas party at the Dry Martini bar at the Melia White House hotel on Tuesday night.  It was another great event and definitely needs to be repeated soon. Apologies to everyone who tried to get a ticket but didn’t get lucky. We will look into a bigger venue, more nights and/or a different ticketing system for the next event. Promise!

We do want to share some of the great pictures Jamie took on the night (big thank you!) and also take this opportunity to thank Qatar Airways for sponsoring the event.  The Qatar Airways marketing team – see below – was out in force and I know they were very impressed by how many of our readers had already flown with them and how knowledgeable they were about the Qatar Airways product and service.

I think this is my favourite picture of the evening!

We had some great conversations ….

and it was really nice to meet so many of you ….

and …

and ….

The bar staff did a great job:

and there was never a long waiting time:

In addition to complimentary wine, beer and soft drinks we decided to also serve prosecco this year.

Again we forgot to video Rob’s speech …..

A big thank you to all the companies who generously offered raffle prizes! And congratulations to the 18 winners.

The main prize was:

  • Qatar Airways: 1 Business Class return ticket from the UK to almost any Qatar Airways destination

Here is the winner, Lee, with the Qatar Airways team:

And thank you to the other companies who generously donated our other prizes:

Also a big thank you to Qatar Airways, Charles Tyrwhitt and Conde Nast Traveller for providing goodie bag items.

Some readers who missed out on a ticket came later at 8pm when the bar reopened to the public, and there were still some readers in the bar when we left just before midnight – 6 hours after the party started!

  1. I must make an effort next year. I didn’t go for tickets as I knew that I was on nightshift . In hindsight it would have been worth booking an Annual Leave ‘day’ for the evening

  2. Looks and sounds like a great evening!

  3. I went on my own and was surprised that I was in the minority with regards tier point runs and extreme ex-eu flights, I’ve never done tp runs (though the OH travels for work so no probs getting BA status) and only done one ex-eu in my life!

Was a great evening though, as a suggestion I quite like the smaller venue, but perhaps there could be an informal meet-up of HfP’ers at a summer event for example where just hire out an area in a pub/bar and we pay for our own drinks?

    • Agree, conversation flowed nicely, people just catching up. Summer event a great idea, and just pay for your own drinks. The prosecco was a really nice touch, Rob and Anika. Very classy…

  4. Looks like a great time was had by all – I must try to extract myself from the business calendar for next year’s event.

  5. Sussex bantam says:

Yay. I made a picture ! (Red jumper picture 5). Thanks for a fun evening guys !

    • Even though I wasn’t there, it’s good to put faces to names, from the photos. It’s odd that some of the nicknames used in the site lead me to think the contributor is male, when in fact, they’re female. I shouldn’t jump to conclusions.

  6. Really enjoyed the evening – thank you Rob , Anika and Qatar! I was also lucky enough to win one of the raffle prizes – the Plaza Premium passes.

  7. Fantastic night, thanks to Rob and Anika, Qatar, and everyone else who was a part of it. Met some great people and the Dry Martini Bar was a really good venue.

I was the exceptionally lucky winner of the Qatar flight and will definitely be making good use of that, so thank you again to Qatar for the prize!

    • Nice one! I assume Qatar didn’t throw in a second ticket in the end after the announcement slip up?

      • Haha, they didn’t, I think the second ticket was quickly withdrawn from that announcement! One ticket is perfectly fine by me, that’s all I need!

  8. Looks great, gutted I couldn’t make it. Can we have a weekend date next time?

  9. Had a great night – Think my gift bag may have been a little bit light though. As I had nothing from Qatar (Unless that was just the bag?) or Conde Nest (Not even a leaflet)

Not complaining of course, After all I would still have gone without the goody bag or even the free drinks.

    • Chocolate, tie, magazine

We only had 150 magazines though, so a few bags went short. There were some chocs left in the (literally) 3 bags still there at midnight so yours may have been swiped!

  10. Looks great and a fun night, I tried getting a ticket but they went within seconds

A bigger venue and more tickets sounds likes a good suggestion for next year

Also the informal summer drinks sounds good

  11. Thanks for a most memorable evening. I tried to muscle in (apologies!) and meet as many people as possible….numerous conversations, but the majority I spoke to seemed to be readers only as apposed to contributors.

n picture #2, is the gentleman giving the Qatar Marketing team lady a BA CW trip report that’s making her laugh so much? “I nearly tripped when stepping over the legs of the person in the seat next to me…”

  13. Nick Burch says:

Thanks for a great evening! It was a fun mix of people, everyone very friendly, and meant you could be sharing your tips one minute, then learning something new the next. Some very interesting chats with folks from Qatar and Avios too 🙂

  14. Looks like it was a great evening! Will try and get myself and MrCate tickets for next year if he promises not to ‘borrow’ the A380 model 😛

  15. It was great to meet Rob, Anika and some of the regular contributors: Dean, Polly, Mark, Benji, Rich, David. Sorry but I am more of a lurker than a poster here. I made it into one of Anika’s pictures, (was featured this am, but now taken down)

so I just need to know if you are Pinky, Perky or Snuffles ie 1, 2 or 3 from left to right

I have finally worked out how you were so quick on the button lol 🙂

  17. Michael Blume says:

Thanks Rob, Annika, Vueling, Charles Tyrwhitt, Qatar.
Looking forward to using my vueling vouchers!

    • Well done. You will want to book ‘Excellence’ class or you have no hope of spending the entire €500 for 2 people in one booking!

  18. Would it be possible I’m future to have one raffle prize for those unable to attend or who live top far away please? Thanks

  19. Perhaps, you will need to distribute tickets through some kind of a draw in the future rather than 1C1S basis…
