  some O/T advice required please.
  Is it worthwhile use of my BA 2-4-1 voucher to fly LGW to Antigua, economy on the way out and business class on the way back? No business class fares available outward leg in December 2017, although can fly business back. will cost 100k avios plus £721 taxes for two people. The business class flight back retails at £2122 each. So seems like a good deal to me, but I wondered about it as I recall that the 2-4-1s should not be used on economy flights due to being poor value for money. Will be the first time I’ve used a 2-4-1, so very interested in anybody’s advice.

    If you are doing Business on the way back it is not a bad deal. Even in a sale you’d be looking at £1000+ for that mixed class itinerary so you’re getting 1.3p per Avios (not adjusting for the points you’d earn back) which is decent.

    Even with one leg in business class you will be getting decent value as Rob says, but bear in mind that return flights from the Caribbean are generally overnight. If you value sleep that’s great, but you won’t get much in the way of food and drink compared with a day flight. Also some Caribbean destinations don’t have lounges so if that’s the case you’ll be stuck in the waiting area with everyone else which reduces the value in my opinion!

      better than using a 241 in Europe, which seems an always pretty bad decision

      somewhat tainted by my view that for most people, CE is only worth a free lounge pass and no elbowy neighbour

        Does anybody know of any flights in CE in Europe it would be worth burning a 241 or an Lloyds upgrade voucher on?
        I share TRH1 opinion on the little benefit of CE especially if you have status (and a lounge visit) anyway.
        What I refer to is something like the opportunity we had earlier this year to fly very cheaply Business class on Finnair new Airbus A350 via a trip to Tallinn / Helsinki. A flat bed to Helsinki on an A350 was interesting and worth the £232….. or burning a 241.

        The 321 has CW product in 1-2 config. A bit knackered looking but comfortable.

      Redemption availability is showing 2 x CW seats to Antigua on the 24th and 26th, economy returns in Jan from the 11th – depends how fixed your dates are.

  OT: Data point and oddity: have the BA card from Amex. Reffered myself for the PRG and SPG. 2x 4,000 avios posted last week and having recieved the cards and activated them I have the higher spend bonus too (22,000 and 11,000)!

  Seems like you can refer for other cards!

  OT – AMEX Shop Small

  If you purchase something that is supposed to be in the Shop Small promotion does it show on your statement any differently? Or do you just have to wait for an account credit to show up (or not)?

  Only made 1 purchase on this promotion as there aren’t many participating outlets around my way but not sure if even that one has worked or not
