Hilton opens a brand new Embassy Suites hotel in New York

Hilton opened its newest New York property, Embassy Suites by Hilton New York Midtown Manhattan, this week.

It is so new that the website doesn’t even have room photographs and when I wrote this yesterday it had zero TripAdvisor reviews.

The location is very handy, located between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue on 37th Street in the Garment District.  It is a brand new 39-storey tower and, as most of the area is low rise, it claims to have excellent views.

The good thing about Embassy Suites is that they are designed for families – although no rooms here take more than three people – on longer stays, although you can book for a night.  Rooms are large by New York standards and most have sofas and microwaves.  Free breakfast is included for everyone.

As a brand new hotel you are guaranteed, if nothing else, to find everything new and shiny.  Rates are as low as $199 next month – and $149 this month – looking at the website.

It caps out at 70,000 Hilton Honors points per night although it is well below that at the moment due to the cheap opening rates on offer.  The hotel website is here.

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards (April 2025)

There are various ways of earning Hilton Honors points from UK credit and debit cards.  Many cards also have generous sign-up bonuses.

There are two dedicated Hilton Honors debit cards. These are especially attractive when spending abroad due to the 0% or 0.5% FX fee, depending on card.

You also receive FREE Hilton Honors status for as long as you hold the debit cards – Gold status with the Plus card and Silver status with the basic card. This is a great reason to apply even if you rarely use it.

We reviewed the Hilton Honors Plus Debit Card here and the Hilton Honors Debit Card here.

You can apply for either card here.

There is another way of getting Hilton Honors status, and earning Hilton Honors points, from a payment card.

Holders of The Platinum Card from American Express receive FREE Hilton Honors Gold status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Marriott Bonvoy Gold, Radisson Rewards Premium and MeliaRewards Gold status.

We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here and you can apply here.

Does this Midtown Embassy Suites offer the evening drinks reception for all guests like other Embassy Suites properties??

    • Michael C says:

Hi Mits – just clicked on the rooms description, and yes! Along with “free cooked-to-order b/fast”.

Looks like a fab option for families.

      • adey says:

We stayed in an Embassy Suites near Disneyland (Calif) last summer. Was pleasantly surprised, I knew nothing of the evening drinks reception (which included my favourite lager on draft – sadly no self serving).

As others have mentioned, the chain is great for families and appears to be good value for money!

        • thehornets says:

Adey – can I ask which specifies Embassy Suites? And will the rooms sleep 4 including two older children?

          Many thanks!

        • adey says:

Hi Hornets… I stand corrected – I went to my email to check the address of the “Embassy Suites” and it was actually a “Homewood Suites” – still by Hilton and sounds the same sort of package.

Our ‘suite’ had a full kitchen, living room with sofas and TV. Large bedroom with two large doubles and bathroom.

Everything else was the same too. Free breakfast with some hot items to order, evening drinks reception. Pool, gym, games room.

So would be fine for family of four if the children don’t mind sharing the double bed. There may have been sofa bed too. there is always roll-aways.

Just a note that on some promotions Homewood Suites are excluded from earning whatever the promotion is offering, in the small print. Similar to Accor frequently excluding IBIS Budget from promotional accruals.

Adey – thank you so much!

  • Nigel says:

The issue of baec tier points on qr flights is a bit misleading. We are flying qr to colombo via doha return as 4 ba flight numbers on qr run flights. We are each getting the 560 tier points. It is only if you elect the inconvenience of a middle of the night transfer in doha vs a direct ba flight that you will get more tier points.

    • Rob says:

In what they is that misleading? You get more TP on Qatar because you have to change planes and it counts as extra segments.

      • JamesB says:

In any case It’s only middle of the nightvfrom the regions, I suspect that can be avoided on my itineraries ex LHR.

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

Don’t think BA flies to CMB anyway, just UL running a direct service.

    • Polly says:

      Really Nigel
Where have you been. Its constantly mentioned on here the ACTUAL BENEFIT of bothering to change at Doha is if you require TIER POINTS. plenty of other options to fly better routing on Finnair of Thai airways etc from London at marginally higher prices…
Quite clear..not misleading at all. Many of here are on going ba silver and benefit greatly from a middle of the night or day change at Doha.
In fact we too were looking at Colomba but the sale this time is not good enough for us.

      • JamesB says:

If you ever need a one way cash fare back from Asia Polly that is a good time to do Sri Lanka. UL to UK is very competive, especially from BKK but not quitr as good as preBrexit. If you get round to it sonetime, find your fare online and then call to book as they can usually make them full flexible for not much more. UL is not QR but their a330 J is still a sound and pleasant experience, service and main meals are excellent, snack items less so. It is also a good opportunity to work the Maldives into a multicentre itinerary.

  • JamesB says:

That’s great Genghis, many thanks. Heading out soon but will get a look this weekend. Does it have the functionality to enter a full cash ticket for comparison? No problem if not, it should be easy to tweak to our individual needs.

    • JamesB says:

You’re a star 🙂 Avios earning is great too because we can use that to attribute a value to any miles earned on any airline.

  • Andy says:

Thanks Ghengis. Will look later but am encouraged already. Have a great day.

  • JamesB says:

OT: Does anybody know at what time on a Friday Virgin East Coast releases their next batch of advance tickets? Thanks.

    • JamesB says:

Thanks, jus messed up on my Virgin Red code then so I will reinstall the app again about 08:45. Btw, I got another 1000 nectar points offer for Virgin this week after many weeks at just 500 which I ignored.

      • Adam says:

I’m looking for tickets late July – should I get them when the advance tickets come on sale or wait for a sale? I need Friday and Sunday tickets – the weekend tickets don’t get released much later than midweek..

      • JamesB says:

@Adam, to maximise your discount you need to book the weekday ticket when it’s released 6 months in advance, and then the weekend ticket 3 months in advance. IIRC prices with a railcard of some sort booked at this time are broadly comparable to the best sale fares. Personally I take the cheap tickets when I can get them because we cannot rely on a sale for any specific dates. IME tickets on the popular trains disappear quickly so when I am in a position to book months out I do so. You can get a 20% discount code if you download the virgin red app.

      • Adam says:

        I’m looking for 14 tickets
So is it best to do a booking of 8 then 4 or call the Group ticket hotline? This will also get me the groupsave discount.

I’ll get the virgin red app – very handy – thanks. I’ll keep an eye on the site today, see if my tickets come on sale.

    • Adam says:

Still got 3 weeks till mine come out – 6 July available now…

      • JamesB says:

They have been releasing them a week at a time lately. Sorry, I don’t know about group bookings. However, I discovered that a railcard cannot be combined with the virgin red discount so this is likely true of any two discounts.

  • Talay says:

Do you think we are going to get a meaningful Etihad sale now ?

Last year, on the back of Qatar finishing their offering, Etihad had a far more meaningful 30% off business and economy fares.

I had LHR-BKK for £1154 which was excellent. Timing was right about now.

  • Talay says:

Does anyone know whether you can use the 72 hour hold option on Qatar fares taking it out of the sale window ?

    • Kevin says:

I don’t see why not. They guarantee that price for the hold period don’t they? You’ve got a reservation with allocated seats, you just have to pay for it.

I haven’t had that exact experience though so someone tell me if I’m wrong.

  • JamesR says:

I was on the phone to Qatar last night to book my overnight accom. When I booked there was definetly no shorter connection even in the list. I checked the next day too, both on the official site and google flights. Only one connection, over 8 hours.
I called up and they said there’s a shorter connection so I can’t book the accommodation. I checked and they have since stuck another one in that is only 2-3 hours. I said to the guy on the phone it’s not fair if it wasn’t available initially and that I would have rather. booked the shorter connection. He’s going to call me back (today hopefully) as he had got email someone else to find out exactly when the flight was added. But I know it wasn’t on the bookings page for a fact!

Anyone else had experience with this??

    • Polly says:

Always best to snapshot those booking pages. We too were caught out but only when we got to Doha. Hadn’t checked back after we booked. Was quite annoyed with them . But had to sleep on curvy couches in a quiet area. Not bad really.
