  • Stu N says:

OT – Thanks to whoever it was that suggested calling Amex to shuffle credit limits around between cards – all sorted in 5 mins. Worth noting they only allow you to rebalance things once every three months.

    • Lumma says:

It was my suggestion. I haven’t actually tried it, but will not now that you’ve reported back. Was only given £1500 on the new gold credit card and it would be handy to have a little more

  • Newbie says:

Long time lurker here. Is there a Qatar sale expected any time soon? Need to fly Syd /akl in Feb and hoping for an ex EU sub £1500 deal in J. What is the likelihood? Thanks

    • Rob says:

Pretty sure something will come up. You can book now, on Garuda from Heathrow (so no EU positioning needed) for £1800 for Feb 2019. Earns SkyTeam miles.

  • Hugh says:

OT: Amex agent confirmed last night that there is currently no offer running to add a supplementary card holder to a BAPP account. I am sure I have read here that some people have received a bonus even when nothing was showing up. I am going to apply anyway but do you think I might get lucky and get some Avios?

    • Genghis says:

What have you got to lose by trying? I last received 3k on BAPP before xmas when there was no official offer on

      • MarkH says:

Same here with BAPP and Plat (5k) when there was no official offer on

      • RK says:

        Hi Genghis

How was your stay at Kimpton Monaco – Chicago?

        Appreciate the feedback

        TIA

        • Genghis says:

I did respond to the thread previously. I enjoyed my stay there. I got an upgrade to a river view room. Rooms were large but the plumbing a bit noisy. Staff very friendly. A solid 4/5. I’ll be leaving a TA review so if you want a link, contact me on Twitter, genghis1232.

    • Paul says:

I added a supp card last Tuesday. 3000 Avios posted on Friday!

      • Hugh says:

Good to know. I will apply today and cross my fingers!

        • Roger says:

Do you get sign up bonus if you apply for supplementary card at the time of application?

        • Genghis says:

          @Roger No

        • Hugh says:

Applied for supp card last night. 3000 points posted this morning, before I have even heard if my application was successful!

  • Chris says:

OT: Platinum Charge Card Companion Credit Car. Has anyone else seen this offered on their Plat Charge Card account? 5000 points for spending £500 on the companion credit card.

  • Jovanna says:

If the OH cancels his Amex Gold Rewards Card today and closes his MR account. How soon is it before I can refer him for an Amex Plat Card, so that he’d benefit from another sign up bonus?

  • DavidK says:

OT – Just been told I cannot upgrade with avios from an S selling class economy ticket to Club Europe. In an older HFP article it says I can upgrade S tickets. Has this changed? Thanks

  • Dave910 says:

It really sounds bad when it says mostly “high earning London professionals” I am an admin officer in Northern Ireland earning 27000k a year managing to use a 241 roughly every 18 months. I would think a lot of hfp readers are similar to me. I doubt anyone outside London will ever meet Rob and Anima

    • Mzungu says:

Earning 27 million a year surely puts you in the high earning bracket 😉

      • Matt says:

How can I apply for an admin officer role earning 27000k salary!!!

    • Callum says:

I think that’s simply a fact though? Hence why they focus so heavily on them and not on “normal” people (not that they’re abnormal!).

    • Memesweeper says:

I don’t know if 27k is ‘high earning’ but it is above average! And I’d guess most HfP readers fit the same demographic.

      • Genghis says:

I thought £27k was bang on average?

        • Tilly says:

I think it’s the national average. In London and the SE it’s nearer £45k I think.

          • Rob says:

Seems high. Average wage in Tower Hamlets – which includes all of the Canary Wharf inhabitants – is £31,000. That said, the average salary in Kensington & Chelsea is £123,000, although old Roman round the corner probably distorts that.

      • Rob says:

If you use the external data a HFP reader is 4.1x more likely than the average person to earn over £75,000.

        • LB says:

I think my wage will be dragging down those stats a little 🙁

        • rachael says:

And me, nurses rarely earn that rate. But as my husband says I am his carbon offset I feel happy using any tips I see 🙂

  • MarkH says:

OT as bits: I am staying at the Waldorf Astoria Berlin in a couple of weeks using the Barclaycard free night voucher (thanks HfP) with an additional cash night added on.

Due to the flight times I’d like to get early check-in and late check-out – should I request this now or better to wait till check-in?

    • Clive says:

I would imagine you will be contacted by their Concierge Team prior to arrival so I would ask politely then but also add a note to your reservation so they may pick it up earlier.

      • Dan says:

Yep, this is exactly what I did when staying a couple of years ago.

Small suggestion would be asking for a room with a view of the park / Berlin Zoo, which was really nice. Can’t remember if I was upgraded but our room was HUGE, and had excellent air conditioning on a day when temperatures were 38 degrees outside!
