Eurostar station staff to strike on 28th July

Eurostar station staff at London St Pancras have called a 24 hour strike for 28th July.

It is to protest at what the RMT union describes as “shocking and dangerous” working conditions due to recent service failures, caused by issues in the tunnel, train breakdowns and French rail strikes.

Eurostar strike

As anyone who has used Eurostar since the move from Waterloo will know, the concourse area is not huge and can soon become overcrowded if trains are not running on schedule.

Eurostar currently believes that it can continue to run services as normal if the strike does go ahead.

How to get Club Eurostar points and lounge access from UK credit cards (April 2025)

Club Eurostar does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Club Eurostar points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 15:1 into Club Eurostar points.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, so you will get the equivalent of 1 Club Eurostar point for every £15 you spend.

American Express Platinum comes with a great Eurostar benefit – Eurostar lounge access!

You can enter any Eurostar lounge, irrespective of your ticket type, by showing The Platinum Card at the desk.  No guests are allowed but you can get entry for your partner by issuing them with a free supplementary Amex Platinum card on your account.

Is it just me or does it see, like a much weaker offering this year?

  • Beniyo says:

Prime deals on products that otherwise wouldn’t sell.

  • Sue says:

Morning. With amazon £10 bonus when buying £80 gift card there seems to be nothing confirming that this offer is on? Anyone clicked on link and bonus awarded automatically? Thanks

    • the real harry1 says:

The £10 takes up to 48 hrs to come through. There’s a different £10 up for grabs for Prime/ Prime Trial/ Students – install the Amazon app for the first time and buy something (£5 for non-Prime members).

      • the real harry1 says:

Don’t worry, Amazon system is pretty good. ISTR the T&Cs said use by end August,

You could go on Chat and ask for your £10, they often just give it to you there & then (with no time limit). And a day later you get the other £10 🙂

  • Jack says:

Is the £10 credit only available to selected customers? Can’t see it when I log into my amazon account 🙁

  • KBuffett says:

OT – Does anyone have a link to the Amex Cafe Nero offer? If so, would you be kind enough to post?

  • KBuffett says:

The Ring Pro doorbell seems like a decent deal?

    • BJ says:

Only if you want visitors 🙂

    • ankomonkey says:

Does the ‘Pro’ bit mean only postal service and delivery people who need to call for their jobs can use it?

  • bitolux says:

The Amazon gift voucher offer is no longer available: “The limit of 12,500 customers for this promotion has been reached.”

OT – Has anyone else had their Marriott account upgraded from Gold to Platinum by any chance?

I am a matched status through SPG and have gone on my account this morning and I am now Platinum. Very odd.

    • BJ says:

No joy here, hope you hold onto that.

      • Brian S says:

It is very odd, I’m currently in the Platinum challenge (which I am nowhere near completing) and it is my anniversary with Marriott today which ties in when I originally got my Marriott Rewards Credit Card. I wonder if it has been a system glitch that has awarded elite nights changed my status….

        • Steve says:

Check comments under yesterday’s Bits it looks like a few of us on different stages of the plat challange have been upgrades early, some much earlier than others. Having said that the current upgrade is only to March 19, whilst i presume on completion of challange we should be plat till end of 2019

        • mike says:

it appears that what has happened is that anyone who requested the platinum challenge has been upgraded temporarily to platinum. I requested in June, but decided not to do it in the end for a variety of reasons, but have nevertheless been upgraded overnite to platinum. the wife on the other hand has remained at gold, presumably as she did not request the platinum challenge.

      • Brian S says:

It has now matched to SPG Platinum through March 1st 2019. I wonder if Marriott have backtracked on the status match in the new program?

        • Rob says:

No, they have given Plat to everyone who signed up for a Plat challenge but didn’t complete it.

        • r says:

any chance to request it now?

          • Rob says:

No, they stopped accepting new Platinum challenge applications a few weeks ago. It may not return looking at this.

        • mike says:

rob, just out of interest do you happen to know why they decided to do this?

    • Tom H says:

I’m showing platinum in the app, but gold on the website.

      very strange.

      • Rob MC says:

I changed to platinum yesterday and checked into a courtyard a few hours later. Check in desk lady said I was still shown as gold on their system however may be because I had already checked in.
