Eurostar station staff to strike on 28th July

Eurostar station staff at London St Pancras have called a 24 hour strike for 28th July.

It is to protest at what the RMT union describes as “shocking and dangerous” working conditions due to recent service failures, caused by issues in the tunnel, train breakdowns and French rail strikes.

Eurostar strike

As anyone who has used Eurostar since the move from Waterloo will know, the concourse area is not huge and can soon become overcrowded if trains are not running on schedule.

Eurostar currently believes that it can continue to run services as normal if the strike does go ahead.

How to get Club Eurostar points and lounge access from UK credit cards (April 2025)

Club Eurostar does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Club Eurostar points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 15:1 into Club Eurostar points.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, so you will get the equivalent of 1 Club Eurostar point for every £15 you spend.

American Express Platinum comes with a great Eurostar benefit – Eurostar lounge access!

You can enter any Eurostar lounge, irrespective of your ticket type, by showing The Platinum Card at the desk.  No guests are allowed but you can get entry for your partner by issuing them with a free supplementary Amex Platinum card on your account.

O/T – Marriott Travel Package problem!

I’ve just tried to use a Marriott cat 1-5 travel package for 7 nights at a tier 2 Ritz Carlton hotel. I was aware I would need to pay the extra points, however I’ve been told that I cannot use the voucher for Ritz Carlton hotels. The agent said Ritz Carlton hotels can’t be used for Travel Packages.. I pointed out that was rather odd considering they sell Tier 1-2 and Tier 3-4 Travel Packages and the only hotels that Marriott have that are Tiers 1-4 are Ritz Carlton. But she said that might be on their website but it’s not on their system.. She gave me 5000 points as apology. Has anyone else used a Travel Package for the Ritz Carlton? Really doesn’t seem right to me!

Had the same problem a week ago. Agent was adamant that I cannot upgrade further than Cat 9. I bluffed and said that I’ve done it before. He then went on to speak to a someone for about 10 minutes. Came back said can’t be done. I said I want to speak to a supervisor. Again on hold for a few minutes then said he’ll transfer over to someone else. That agent seemed to know everything and processed right away.

OT – how does Curve make money on the personal debit card as surely that one is affected by the EU interchange caps unlike the Corporate version?

    • Genghis says:

I don’t think it does. As with other fintechs, currently building up user base to then monetise the product somehow.

Anyone struggling to get iberia points to credit? I got 9k not 90k.

    • the real harry1 says:

see the Flyertalk Iberia forum – in short, you’re not alone and you need to be proactive in getting your points

      • the real harry1 says:

Loads of people on FT got their (very late) 90K Avios posted today, I guess these were mostly new a/cs that had to get ID verified. Quite a few people are missing one or more lots of 9000 Avios despite getting the bulk of their points. If I were in that position, I’d get to work straight away contacting IB yet again.

  • Evan says:

OT: I’m being a bit dumb here – I’ve got a return F redemption booking next year – made it a while back now. The avios are still sitting in my account. When will they actually go (as in to “pay” for the flight)? I’ve never really noticed before as I’ve had plenty of points but I’m running them down and I’d like to use the residue. I know they will go btw, I’m not thinking I’ve got lucky.

    • Lumma says:

Usually they go as soon as you make the booking, although the recent transactions on your account often only show them when you take the flight

    • the real harry1 says:

You need to get that sorted as it sounds like the flight details (and your booking) have not been completed 100%

      • Stu N says:

I’d check that the flight has been ticketed properly (even if they have taken the cash component ok). Particularly if you’ve changed the booking there is often a delay in ticketing and debiting the Avios but if it’s been more than a few weeks I’d give them a phone. You should get straight through to YouFirst (the number is listed in manage my booking, you might need to look at the desktop version) and they will get it sorted for you. They will come for the Avios eventually so no benefit in leaving it.

    • Genghis says:

      Has the booking been ticketed?

      • Evan says:

Well I have the e-ticket receipt with the ticket numbers for both passengers….fees have come off the BA Amex….booked about 3 months ago….Oh the moral dilema! I’ve seen Eric’s comment. Should I chance it?

    • Eric the Half a Bee says:

I had this a couple of years ago with an F redemption on a 241. The Avios never left my account, but the fees were taken from my credit card. All ticketed straight away. All flights were flown and the issue was never raised by BA after the event. I guess I was the fortunate recipient of a glitch in the system…

  • Jovanna says:

I’m seeing different availability on ba.com to avios.com. BA has four BA flights on the day that I’m looking at. Avios only has two flights.

I was hoping to use a Lloyds upgrade voucher, which expires at the end of this month. Of course, the flight that I want to catch is shown on the BA page and not the Avios page. Is this typical? Can I resolve it over the telephone with Avios?

    • Anna says:

I’ve had this – called them when there were 7 CW seats showing on a flight on BA but avios.com said there were no seats and I ended up having to book a different flight to use my upgrade voucher. I suppose it might have been that someone booked those seats in the time it took for the avios.com CS rep to get into their system but 7? However, it’s always worth calling them and asking.

      • Lady London says:

BA in particular deny it and it used to happen a lot more but it’s still relatively frequent that Avios availability that is showing on Avios, is better than Avios availability showing on BA. This is the first time I’ve heard of it working the other way but I’d always call and ask

        • Jovanna says:

I called Avios. They could see the flights that I wanted. All booked now. Thank you.

        • guesswho2000 says:

Back when Avios.com was Airmiles, you’d occasionally end up being booked into a revenue bucket, I earned BA Miles and Tier Points on a reward booking once (it was a Y LHR-BRU, so nothing life changing, sadly!).

        • the real harry1 says:

yep I have benefited from this in the past. Still worth putting in FF number nowadays even when you won’t earn Avios or TPS – it seems to get me a blocked middle half the time even though I have zero status, being a 100% points redeemer (no cash tickets, ever). Blocked middle even when the plane is 99% full with just 1 or 2 empty seats, no idea why that happens as there must be superior status people on the plane, I guess if they sit their partner next to them, they wouldn’t get a blocked middle. Or does my Avios stash get seen by the algorithm? Or is it because I often grab exit seat for free, & exit row IS often just 2 people not 3? Or because I am quick off the mark to check in @ T-24 minus a few seconds? One to ponder.

  • Pangolin says:

Someone should make a version of that for hotel rooms! 🙂

  • Callum says:

Unlikely, unless Virgin join at some point (possible, but they only have two Chinese routes so I don’t know whether they’d really add anything).

Being partners with AF/KLM doesn’t really make you any closer to their other partner airlines.

If you prefer Ebay prices to Amazon, you can get 20% off Ebay UK sitewide right now using code PRIMO119 (but it’s more complicated that that, check elsewhere to see how). This does work fine, Ebay are funding the discounts.
