News in brief:

British Airways launches another First Class 241 ‘Dream Tickets’ offer – to China

Last month British Airways launched ‘Dream Tickets’.  This is a new 2-4-1 promotion for First Class cash tickets.

The opening offer was for Cape Town.  It was hugely successful, judging by the number of readers who told me they had booked.

Tw0 new routes are now bookable.   They were NOT added to the Dream Tickets home page here at the time of writing but the fares are bookable.  Here is the deal:

£4,716 for two people to Shanghai or Beijing in First Class

Book by 24th August, travel between 1st October 2018 and 30th April 2019

£4,716 reflects the fact that 2018 is the 4716th Chinese year.

BUT DON’T BOOK THIS!

Instead, go here to the BA Holidays premium holidays site.  Book your First Class flights and throw in a car rental or cheap hotel instead.  You should see a substantial fall in what you pay.  Far cheaper than just booking the flight on its own ….  When the Cape Town offer was running, the price dropped by £200 per person and you got the car as well.

Marriott Rewards backtracks on its changes to Travel Packages

This will hopefully be our last mention of Marriott Travel Packages for a while!

The excellent news is that Marriott has decided to compensate people who were most affected by the changes to Travel Packages last weekend.

The full story is in this article, but to summarise – Marriott had not told people in advance of the merger of SPG and Marriott Rewards what would happen to unused Travel Package certificates.  When they revealed the answer, many people found themselves in a position which they could have improved with some advance notice.

The news is that anyone who has a Category 6, Category 8 or Tier 1-3 Travel Package can request a 30,000 points refund to reflect the fact that they would have got the same benefits from buying a cheaper Category 5, Category 7 or Category 9 certificate.

The refund is not automatic – you need to contact Marriott Rewards and request it.  To submit a request, go to https://www.marriott.com/marriott/contact.mi and select “packages – deals” from the drop down menu.

Marriott has also re-opened booking for Travel Package certificates so you don’t need to wait until 18th September to use them, as was previously announced.

Comments

  1. Since the OT seems to be SPG heavy today…. am I alright to transfer some points over to Alaska Mileage Plan or is that still likely to be a hassle?
