    No it doesn’t sadly unless you pay for a rate that you settle at check out. Asked the Amex CS agent and got this confirmed as have just booked a couple of US Hiltons over the past week.

  Totally and completely OT: Does anyone know if I return an Avis rental 24hrs late in the UK how much extra I get charged? Is it an additional pro-rata fee based on the price I paid?

    Additions day’s rental cost (@ standard rate for that car) + £18/ day late return fee

    Yes its the standard “rack rate” for the extra day which is considerably more expensive than the price you paid. Customer service can tell you exactly what the charge would be.

    Call the branch (push 4 on their phone number) and see if they can adjust the booking – either before or after the return time. They tend to do it including your current rate (or AWD, if you have a corporate). Central and the auto system use the rack rate even if you change before the car is due back.

    Don’t recommend just holding it for an extra 24h – they (understandably) become concerned about the location of the vehicle! Up to an hour late to return has never been an issue for me with Avis downtown or airport locations in the UK though.

  I am on the last flight to Kalamata in a few weeks’ time and don’t like the look of those BoB prices. Can anyone point me to the BA policy allowing one’s own alcoholic drinks to be consumed onboard?

    I don’t think there is anything in BA T&Cs to prohibit bring onboard (prepared to be proved wrong though), airlines that do permit it sometimes ask you to pass it to the crew and they will serve you. You could always ask them on Twitter?

      BA allow reasonable consumption of your own alcoholic drinks on board, as confirmed many times on FT by staffers. Many people report cabin crew being helpful, ie chilling down a white wine and serving it to you an hour or so into the flight.

      Most other airlines seem to ban it in T&Cs.

  OT: has anyone managed to use an upgrade voucher/241 with Virgin, then managed to upgrade further with additional points?

  I am thinking of getting to PE with the voucher and then top up to UC with more points.

    I don’t think a PE ticket (booked with an upgrade voucher) is eligible to upgrade with points. Would advise calling Virgin to ask…I have an upcoming PE journey which is using a voucher and there is still an option to bid for an upgrade using £ though.

  Forget about tea & coffee and Glenlivet and tinnies of beer and pop.
  The increase for Percy Pigs is an outrage
  £1.85 to £2.00 8.1% increase
  225 to 285 Avios 26.7% increase
  I’m sure that there’s is Select Committee (Treasury …..) that will want to grill Alex over this.

  OT but bits. I need to buy a cash ticket for the OH as BA almost never release more than 2 CW seats to GCM and we don’t want to travel on separate days. On BA.com the return prices from August 19th are 3 times what they are up till then (c £800 for August 15th but £2300 for the 19th!). I suspect they will come down eventually (though possibly not before the end of the current sale), but does anyone know the reason for the discrepancy? AA’s prices are also ludicrous for the end of August. It’s not the case with other destinations, just the NAS/GCM flight.

    Is there no where you can fly both in CW on a redemption then spend the c£300-£400 on a short hop to GCM? Maybe add in some time on another islands.

    Maybe even via Madrid as surcharges are likely to be much lower

      The only other way to get to GCM is to go via the US and we want to avoid that next year having done both options in the past. It’s a tricky island to get to, which explains the low tourist numbers from Europe. Also, when paying for one cash ticket, that person gets tier points and avios so it’s an acceptable option.

        The person paying cash could do an Ex-EU to bring the cost down? E.g. pack one person off to Dublin the night before and he joins the rest of you at Heathrow the following day.

    It’s not making any difference to the long haul sector. It’s not really a question about our itinerary, more does anyone have any insight into BA’s pricing policies or issues with their IT relating to updating flight prices?

  Why the mixture of units in the IB article? Normally seat pitch is measured in inches (like the screen size mentioned in the article).
