Marriott has launched a special promotion exclusively for Head for Points readers.

To celebrate the merger of Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest into the new (still unnamed) loyalty programme, Marriott is offering a special points bonus if you book a long weekend in Europe this Autumn.

This offer runs in addition to the current Autumn bonus points promotion (article is here and you can register here).  This special HfP bonus is on top of your standard points, any elite status bonus AND the 2,000 bonus points you would earn from the ‘MegaBonus In More Places’ offer.

What’s the deal?

Until 9th October 2018, you will get 10,000 bonus points when booking a long weekend stay at select hotels in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Florence, Geneva, London, Milan, Nice, Paris, Rome, Vienna or Zurich.

The special booking page is here.  You must book by 9th October and complete your stay by 31st March 2019

We would value 10,000 bonus points at £50+ so this is a generous rebate, especially as you receive all of your standard and promotional points too.

How to earn 10,000 bonus points

You will earn 10,000 bonus points when booking a two night or longer weekend stay – which must include a Thursday night or a Monday night – at select hotels using a promotional code.

To clarify how this works:

A Thursday to Saturday 2-night stay is OK

A Sunday to Tuesday 2-night stay is OK

A Wednesday to Friday or Monday to Wednesday 2-night stay is NOT OK because it doesn’t cover a weekend night

A Friday to Sunday 2-night stay is NOT OK because it doesn’t include a Thursday or Monday

I hope that makes sense!

The promotional code you need to use on the Marriott website is MR6.

The rate you get should be the same as the cheapest available generally, eg the Member Prepay and Save rate.

The hotels included in this offer are:

Amsterdam – Marriott Amsterdam

Amsterdam – Renaissance Amsterdam

Barcelona – Autograph Collection Cotton House

Barcelona – Renaissance Barcelona

Barcelona – Hotel Arts Barcelona

Florence – AC Firenze

Geneva – Ritz-Carlton Geneva

London – Marriott London Grosvenor Square

London – Marriott Hotel County Hall

You need to book by 9th October for stays until 31st March 2019.  You can earn a maximum of 100,000 bonus points from this promotion.

  • Donald Trump says:

Ive boycotted Marriott and SPG because of the missing poinst shambles. Im now owed almost 200k points for 3 months (from SPG Amex to my Marriott acc) and no one has any idea when they will post. Im spending all my money on Hilton and all my business spend is on other cards.

  • FlyingChris says:

Just another +1 to all the Amex/SPG issues. 2 and counting without points and no communication. Would really like to know when it will be resolved.

  • RIccatti says:

+1 on Amex SPG and just had a complaint follow up call from American Express today.

They have no clue and say SPG/Marriott is the issue.

In reality, points transfer (from Amex SPG and MR to new SPG accounts) requires confirmation of name on account, and most likely Amex does not know how to get this information from converted Marriott-formatted accounts (from old SPG account). So it is on both sides.

Seems Marriott does not care to update American Express on anything, and that is not a priority.

  • Russell says:

Just chased Amex on my missing 39k Marriott points – and they said they would post in 2-4 weeks from today. Whether this is based on any kind of actual information or a wild guess is unknown.

  • Del T says:

Another frustrated Amex user here, I have been told (By Amex) to wait another 2-4 weeks… I wanted to use my points in 2 weeks but I cant due to this massive cock up….(100k points gone missing)

  • Daz says:

Yep really annoyed here, had been planning to use the points for part of our honeymoon stay but looks like that’s not gonna be possible if they don’t sort things out sharpish otherwise will have to downgrade hotel if paying cash 🙁

  • Peter W says:

I’m also having trouble with SPG/Marriott points. My problem is moving them to my BA account. So far it’s been a week since they left my Marriott account and no sign of them in my BA account. Is this the new normal? Digging online suggests it should take 4 days.

  • J says:

OT: If I use Hilton points to book a room, will the stay/nights count towards a diamond challenge?
