Marriott has launched a special promotion exclusively for Head for Points readers.

To celebrate the merger of Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest into the new (still unnamed) loyalty programme, Marriott is offering a special points bonus if you book a long weekend in Europe this Autumn.

This offer runs in addition to the current Autumn bonus points promotion (article is here and you can register here).  This special HfP bonus is on top of your standard points, any elite status bonus AND the 2,000 bonus points you would earn from the ‘MegaBonus In More Places’ offer.

What’s the deal?

Until 9th October 2018, you will get 10,000 bonus points when booking a long weekend stay at select hotels in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Florence, Geneva, London, Milan, Nice, Paris, Rome, Vienna or Zurich.

The special booking page is here.  You must book by 9th October and complete your stay by 31st March 2019

We would value 10,000 bonus points at £50+ so this is a generous rebate, especially as you receive all of your standard and promotional points too.

How to earn 10,000 bonus points

You will earn 10,000 bonus points when booking a two night or longer weekend stay – which must include a Thursday night or a Monday night – at select hotels using a promotional code.

To clarify how this works:

A Thursday to Saturday 2-night stay is OK

A Sunday to Tuesday 2-night stay is OK

A Wednesday to Friday or Monday to Wednesday 2-night stay is NOT OK because it doesn’t cover a weekend night

A Friday to Sunday 2-night stay is NOT OK because it doesn’t include a Thursday or Monday

I hope that makes sense!

The promotional code you need to use on the Marriott website is MR6.

The rate you get should be the same as the cheapest available generally, eg the Member Prepay and Save rate.

The hotels included in this offer are:

Amsterdam – Marriott Amsterdam

Amsterdam – Renaissance Amsterdam

Barcelona – Autograph Collection Cotton House

Barcelona – Renaissance Barcelona

Barcelona – Hotel Arts Barcelona

Florence – AC Firenze

Geneva – Ritz-Carlton Geneva

London – Marriott London Grosvenor Square

London – Marriott Hotel County Hall

London – London EDITION

London – Marriott London Marble Arch

London – Marriott London Park Lane

London – Renaissance London St. Pancras

London – Autograph Collection St. Ermin’s

Nice – AC Nice

Paris – Marriott Paris Champs-Elysees

Paris – Marriott Paris Opera Ambassador

Paris – Renaissance Paris Vendome

Paris – Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe

Rome – Courtyard Rome Central Park

Rome – Marriott Rome Grand Flora

Rome – Autograph Collection Palazzo Naiadi, The Dedica Anthology

Vienna – Marriott Vienna

Zurich – Marriott Zurich

You need to book by 9th October for stays until 31st March 2019.  You can earn a maximum of 100,000 bonus points from this promotion.

More information about this special offer, together with a booking link, is here.

Also in today’s e-post, an invitation to a 3-night stay at a Marriott timeshare in Marbella. ‘Bargain’ for £329, including car rental and bonus points. 90 minute sales pitch required.

Pretty sure this wouldn’t qualify for Rob’s promotion, unless anybody knows different.

  • Bob Clarke says:

    Something is amiss

One of our servers is down and has issued a cry for help to our engineering swat team. We are investigating and resolving the issue this very second, and hope to have things back very soon.

In the meantime you can keep tabs on our progress at twitter.com/mailchimpstatus.

We very much appreciate your patience

  • Nick M says:

OT but still Marriott related – has there been any “official” communication about previously unattached travel packages yet? – I had a Cat 6 package, and would ideally like to pay the extra 30k to upgrade to a new Cat 5 or at least receive the 30k refund to stick with the Cat 1-4… are people having success upgrading? (I gave up trying to follow the FT thread when there were 10+ pages/day of new posts)

    • Rob says:

      You can’t upgrade AFAIK.

    • Russ says:

But then again, a telephone call requesting the upgrade, being refused by the customer service clerk, firmly requesting your call be escalated to a supervisor may do the trick. You have to have a good reason to give the supervisor. My spiel, manager wouldn’t sign off my holiday dates as it’s next year. You need to have the 30,000 points already in your account for them to make the switch.

Fortune favors the brave Nick M (and speed!).

  • Chuckstar says:

Bit OT. Do Marriott credit nights that are
booked by TA ? I’m on target for Plat
this year but need 2 stays to credit from
    Marriott/Renaissance properties, what
    are my chances ? Cheers

    • Rob says:

Yes if it is a corporate travel agent. No if its Expedia etc. No chance if part of a package holiday. Might be OK if booked on a standalone basis by Trailfinders, Flight Centre etc.

      • Chuckstar says:

Thanks Rob, good to know, i will keep trying then.
I have very limited experience of Marriott customer service but seems dreadfully incompetent.

  • AndyW says:

Have to agree with a lot of the comments, sort out all the problems before running anything extra. Missing a large number of points from SPG amex like many others.

  • S**mo says:

    Rob,

Have you spoken to Marriott about the SPG/Amex issues that many of your readers have posted about? (i’m also one with issues on this) and it’s affecting my spending/stay habit and trust I have in the group.

    • S**mo says:

*Not that its your responsibility… it’s just you seem to have a inside route when the rest of us are being passed pillar to post with people that don’t really understand the issues properly.

    • Rob says:

Out of the hands of the UK team unfortunately.

  • Lee says:

If anyone holds hsbc mastercard elite . Found that out that hsbc will not honour my 40000 points for spending 12k in a year . They say unless u pay next years fee which is non refundable then no points . Not sure how this is legal its very unethical and would stop me ever signing up again under these terms .I pushed them hard on the phone but they wont budge and just say if your not happy talk with the ombudsmen. Rob next time you review this card i think this is worth mentioning as its effectively means u only ever receive one set of bonus points .

    • Rob says:

That’s what the review already says, pretty much: “You will receive an additional 40,000 points, worth an extra 20,000 Avios, if you spend a total of £12,000 in your first year. These will not arrive in your account until after your 12 months of membership irrespective of how quickly you hit the spending target.”

Some people did manage to get around your problem with a few calls but not all were successful.

  • Jordan D says:

I’m still fighting with Amex SPG team who have what is clearly an old list of Marriott/SPG hotels for double points per stay. One hotel I am regularly at (open since Feb 2015 – Autograph Collection) doesn’t appear on the computer, so I don’t get double points per transaction on the Amex SPG.

2 months and still no resolution …
